33 High Street Restaurant 

33 High Street offers the best of Mozambican fare from tripe, beans and chorizo stew to elegant steaks and grilled chicken dishes, all served with fresh herbs, veggies and beautiful garnishes. Finish with the delicious cardamom coffee mud cake made with 70% Belgian chocolate.

The wine list spans the whole spectrum, catering for pockets able to afford Moet to those happier with Papillon Brut. It is extremely well compiled and user friendly, listing each varietal separately.

Modderfontein seems to be a forgotten enclave within the larger Gauteng metropolis, with the result that service staff is open and friendly. Most of them have moved from one restaurant to another with owner Thea Blom, so they must love the profession.

Clean and modern inside, old colonial wraparound veranda and huge trees outside – elegant understatement.

Thea Blom is the master at making Mozambique food elegant and modern; her style is distinctive and her food is fresh, elegant, unfussy and yet extremely tasty. (HF, September 2010)

Mother's Day Buffet started well enough but for some reason the service fell apart once lunch was served. Cleared the dirty plates myself. Waiter simply vanished. Instead of a dessert buffet turns out they were taking orders. A passing waiter took our dessert and coffee order when we enquired and never returned. Management apologised after someone very defensive got snappy with my husband.. We won't be back. Pity because we have had good meals there before. The individual dessert rather than a dessert buffet may have made sense economically for them but it backfired on a PR level. Lots of cross people at surrounding tables.
