Food:

Marthinus Ferreira’s award-winning restaurant features a compact but diverse menu that changes regularly and includes daily seasonal specials. The food is respected and not overworked. There is generally foie gras available – we ate the delicacy with ginger crumble and an apple puree that cut through the richness. Signature dishes are the delicious slow-roasted chicken, served with mashed potato, braised lettuce and jus, and the succulent pork chop marinated with olive oil, fennel seeds, basil and chilli, and served with bacon, borlotti beans and a rich lemon pork reduction. With the latter you have to order your starch separately, which makes it pricey.

Wine:

A carefully thought-out wine list with a good selection of wines available by the glass.

Service:

Efficient. Replacing a dish of over-cooked tuna was handled with aplomb.

Ambience:

Chic without being opulent.

And...:

A tasting menu of six courses paired with wines has been introduced. The cost is R750 inclusive and R500 excluding wines. (JW, October 2011)
