Food:

The thing to start with is the superb oak-smoked salmon (tell them to hold the foie gras) or the seared Chalmar beef tataki, with ginger, chilli and lime. The cauliflower risotto with roasted sweet garlic is superb. For mains, proceed to the sticky pork belly with salted palm sugar caramel, or beef short ribs bourguignon with Steenberg Shiraz. Finish it off in style with tiramisu ice cream and chocolate crumbs.

Wine:

A very good list mainly featuring the famed wines of the Steenberg estate.

Service:

Generally professional and smooth. Don’t expect to hurry things along, especially when they are busy.

Ambience:

The large, beautiful room has foldaway glass walls that reveal a vista of green lawns rolling down to pools of water. Striking art pieces give it definition. Much loved by the moneyed Constantia set.

And...:

Do a tasting and take home some of the superb wines on offer. (GL, October 2011)
