Cattle Baron Steak Ranch (Umhlanga Rocks)

There are but a few restaurants that one would give a full fat five-stars to in all categories - and Cattle Baron is one of those. I've chosen to write this also due to having visited them at least four times this year already and never once been disappointed. This eatery is at the Umhlanga Pearls Mall and thus has a beautiful view of the Indian ocean, couple that with the wonderful beach air and you have yourself a winning combination. With cosy seating inside and more aired out seating outside, this has the best of both worlds. You're seated and seen to quite promptly - which is always welcome especially when the restaurant is a tad on the busy side. The tables and seats are comfortable with enough refinement to give the impression of being seated in a far more expensive eatery. Let's first touch on the menu and variety of foods - CB does extremely well here and pretty much all tastes and pallets are catered to. The drinks menu has a fair list of cocktails which are well made (the ones I've tasted anyway). Your meal is prepared quickly and comes accompanied by lovely sides - I even ate some spinach with my steak, and I hate spinach! The steaks are utterly delectable, made to the T, succulent with delightful grill marks on them. I personally favour the T-Bone but have tried a few other cuts and was not disappointed. My mother loves the prawns and devoured them before I could get through half my steak, she rated it better than seafood 'specialist' eateries. Bottom line, if mum loves the place, then it's real good. The lamb chops are also divine and filling - as my non-beef eating friends attest to. This is currently my favourite eatery overall and it will take much to change that.
