Owner's description

Loyal Belthazar fans from way back and new patrons are basking in Belthazar’s return, savouring the meat and seafood extravaganza, the largest wine-by-the-glass bar in the world and panoramic views of the Waterfront and Table Mountain.

Some of the favourite dishes at Belthazar include the 500g T-Bone Steak, Rib-Eye Steak, Wagyu Steaks, Fillet Steaks flambéed with brandy and prepared in one of seven homemade sauces, Seafood Platter, 2kg Mozambiquan Lobster and Langoustines, Grilled Prawns and Calamari, Baby Kingklip, Mussels and Garlic Sauce, Norwegian Salmon, Ostrich, Springbok Carpaccio, Game Kebab, Pork Ribs, Chicken Wing Skewer, decadent Chocolate Ganache and Crème Brûlée and more.

Belthazar’s in-house Master Butcher sources only the very best AAA grade grain-fed and grass-fed beef, including superior free-range, grass-fed organic beef and Wagyu beef. Matured for a minimum of 28 days, all the meat is hung on the carcass (dry-aged) for three days in specially designed temperature-controlled cold rooms with humidity. Thereafter, the Fillet, Sirloin, Rump and Rib-Eye are ‘wet-aged’, while the T-Bone, Chicago Cut (Belthazar’s signature Rib-Eye on the bone), Fillet on the Bone and Sirloin on the Bone are left to ‘dry-age’ for up to 40 days. Belthazar also offers top quality Karoo Lamb, Beef, Lamb and Pork Ribs and their extensive Game Menu includes Ostrich, Crocodile, Springbok, Kudu, Impala, Wildebeest, Blesbok, Gemsbok and Eland.

Belthazar specialises in locally and sustainably sourced freshly caught Cape Linefish, from the sea to your plate in record time. Other seafood specialties include Fresh Wild Oysters, Mussels served with Creamy Garlic or Napoletana Sauce, Baby Kingklip, Grilled Prawns (Queens, Kings and Tiger Giants), Calamari (grilled or panko crumbed and deep fried), Giant Mozambican Lobster, Mozambican Langoustines, Norwegian Salmon and a choice of five sumptuous Seafood Platters.

The wine experience at Belthazar is second to none with wine, wine everywhere, tempting wine-lovers with the largest wine-by-the-glass bar in the world – an iconic wine bar with the biggest nitrogen-infused tap unit in the world serving 200 premium wines by the glass. Patrons are expertly advised by trained sommeliers on an award-winning wine-list of up to 400 wines, and the wines are professionally stored in a designer vinotèque and served in Riedel glassware to enhance the wine of your choice. With a superb wine selection by single varietal, blend and style, the state-of-the-art wine list at Belthazar highlights vintage ratings, critics’ ratings, wine awards and taste indicators.

What an atrocious restaurant to say the least. We were out to celebrate my birthday and were shuffled into the indoor seating as they cannot split outside tables. The inside had dirty walls and flickering lights which we raised and the owner and staff tried to fix the lighting by proceeding to mess around with the dimmer switch while we were seated! A rather bland looking appetiser arrived but we had lost our appetite due to the strobe lighting making us feel rather nauseous. Luckily we were able to change tables to the outside section but this too had its issues - basically garden chairs which were too high for the tables. Having reviewed the exorbitant pricing in the menu and the culmination of a poor execution of the restaurant layout(commanding a so called price premium) we left and went to Ocean Basket, which I might add was a hundred times better!
Nice to see that some people cater for vegetarians even so Belthazar is a meat and fish restaurant. There is even a whole pumpkin with malden salt and honey. The very big “onion blossoms” are like TGI Friday’s in London. Salads are fresh, not to mention the Ministrone Soup.
Ever heard of Fred Flinstone ? There is a huge steak called the flinestone cut. It is huge and be warned for 2 people to share. Never ever seen this ever before. Love the variety and different cuts on the menu. All the meat is displayed in a huge cooler
I tried the Lamb Rogan Josh Curry. Well worth the experience. Fluffy basmati rice too. Well done Belthazar, all your dishes are of the highest standards
Situated on the Waterfront this is a great place to sit and relax outside and watch the people and harbor. Great seafood and steaks and nice cheeseboards too. You can order wines by the glass by the hundreds. Service good
