Food and drinks
Two items are on offer here at Impi Brewing Club – wood-fired pizza and home-brewed Warrior Pilsener, Homestead lager and an ale. You can ask for the tasting menu so you can sample the craft beers before settling on your favourite, but the lager is especially delicious for its lightness and its full-bodied richness. There are only standard-size pizzas, about the size of a ruler in circumference, and you get to create your own. Each ingredient is priced from about R6 for basil to R8 for garlic and R20 for pepperoni and avocado. Each base comes standard with mozzarella for R51. Be careful not to go overboard with ingredients otherwise you might end up ordering the most expensive (yet tasteless) pizza of your life.
With only pizzas to serve, beers to top up and water jugs to fill, service is very relaxed but on hand when needed.
Situated in Victoria Yards, a cool new urban regeneration project in east of Johannesburg, the space is owned by Nico Booysen and Tsietsi Madonsela and boasts a Zulu-inspired theme with headdresses, spears, beaded salt-and-pepper bibs and umqombothi containers as ashtrays.
