I booked a table at Moyo Zoo Lake for Mother's Day on 12 May 2013. We were seated about 5 minutes walk from the buffet lunch that was served this day. The Manager on duty refused to refund the deposit paid on booking for this, but offered to seat us in the 'garden' close to the buffet. After 20 minutes waiting to be seated again, a table on the outskirts of the garden was finally set up. The waiter then took a further 20 minutes to get our drinks order and wrist bands indicating that we are guests for the buffet. After queuing for a further 20 minutes to get to the buffet table, we headed back to our table on to find that my mom's chair was removed from the table (all this on Mother's Day). The garden was pebbled, which meant that all patrons passing our table kicked up dust onto the food that we had to queue so long for. The waiter took a further 20 minutes to bring our bill after the meal was finished.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who has a special occasion to celebrate.
I booked a table at Moyo Zoo Lake for the 6th of Jan 2013 for my birthday after reading a few very good reviews. We arrived at 12,45 and waited for the rest of our party to get there. When everybody was seated it took the waiter forever to come and take our drink order and another long while to place our food order. Out of the 7 people, 3 ate buffet and the remaining 4 of us ordered of the a la carte menu. We were pre-warned that it might take a bit long. I was the only one to order a starter of springbuck Carpaccio. After about an hour and a half, the mains started to appear at the table, no starter in sight.
Our food was very well-prepared and tasted divine, but the very long wait was extremely disappointing. At some point we ordered 7 don pedro’s, which we had to wait for 45min.
The restaurant was lovely and the atmosphere great. I however feel very strongly that something should be done about the lack of service.
I've eaten here a few times now both for lunch and dinner - it's fun, the food is pretty good and the service has always been excellent.
On Saturday, 06 Oct 2012, 9 of us wanted to have a relaxed luncheon and drinks. We waited 15 minutes to be served, and then waited 30 minutes to get drinks. We decided that to attempt in getting food will just be a bad idea. So we asked for the bill instead which took another 20 minutes to arrive. Shocking!
The first time I went for a Sunday lunch (over a year ago) it was great. I recently took some American friends who I wanted to impress with how great South Africa is (now was). It was a buffet meal. The food was dried out - the lamb chops were completely dried out, we all ate different meals and it was all so poorly prepared. It was like no-one cared! The desserts were all in little pastry cups - so hard we couldn't even bite through them. The service was shoddy. No-one really cared. And to cap it all it was incredibly over priced - never ever again!
