Food
The Tashas brand is synonymous with consistent quality food and the restaurant at Mandela Square is no different. The addition of the Flamingo lounge/champagne bar with its own menu is what sets this Tashas apart from other franchises. You can order from the normal Tashas menu or try the special Flamingo menu. For starters or a light meal, try their salmon pate or the honeybush poached pears and biltong salad. Or try their sliced Picanha steak for something more filling. The menu also features interesting sides like Pap and Sheba (tomato and onion sauce).

Drinks
The Flamingo lounge offers both local and imported wines, champagnes, cocktails, craft beers and ciders. For an interesting gin cocktail, try the Flamingo room cocktail or Palms and Sand if you are more into rum-based cocktails. Champagne is served by the bottle or by the glass, with favourites like Billecart Salmone and Mumm champagne also being featured on their extensive offering.

Service
The service is very good and efficient. The servers are well-trained on the wines and champagnes.

Ambience
A lot of thought has gone into the décor and finishing of this Tashas. The beautiful luxurious pastels are reminiscent of a 50s salon, with glass and textured mirrors creating an opulent but tasteful space. The ambience is relaxed and chilled, with everyone from families to trendy cool kids and businessmen all happily co-existing.

And...
Try their interesting breakfast menu items, like the Turkish eggs and the Mexican bowl.

  • I cannot believe that Tashas swipe machines are all not working and they are taking cash only. It's a first in my experience in S.A. either we look like a bunch of deplorables or undesirables that they did not want or whoever does their point of sale machines should be fired. #notafanoftashasanymore

  • Walked in. Sat down. More than 30 minutes later I still hadn't been served. I won't be going back and honestly I've never experienced serve so bad. I've had better service at Wimpy. Disgusting!

  • The Tashas franchise is lovely and the recently opened branch in Nelson Mandela Square is no different. The hostess is a little stand off-ish but we did get a table nonetheless and without too long a wait. Lovely butternut salad. And amazing prego rolls.
