  • The Farmer's Kitchen and it's twin restaurant/bar Thirsty Scarecrow are literally and figuratively the two most colourful restaurants in the Stellenbosch area. Not only do you have a scenic view while enjoying an excellent drink, but you are surrounded by beautiful strawberry fields and colourful scarecrows. The food is really fantastic and there are plenty variety to choose from. The drinks....oh boy. The coffee is really great and don't get me started on the milkshakes and the strawberry champagne! A wide variety of craft beers are available from Thirsty Scarecrow. Food and drink on the menu will suit almost everyone's liking. What further makes both restaurants so nice, is that it is really cool place to linger....either with your kids at the Farmer's Kitchen (they have a lovely play area for kids), with your special someone (enjoying the view) or a big group or friends/family (they have room). It's really perfect for a birthday party or other special celebration as well. I highly recommend that you make a stop, when visiting or passing through Stellenbosch!

  • It was a rainy day in Stellenbosch. My family and I were a bit soaked from spending the morning at the market nearby. We stopped at The Farmer's Kitchen for lunch. Lots of parking available, great! We were warmly greeted by the waiters and were offered a nice and cosy table with soft chairs. The kids made themselves at home between all the pillows. We ordered some house dry red, which was delicious. My husband and I shared the cold meat platter. This was divine. Everything was so tasty and fresh. The kids had potato wedges and chicken strips, all served on very unique crockery. They each had a strawberry milkshake, made from real strawberries, thick and creamy! Lovely (we finished the rest). This lunch was the highlight of the morning. The kids could not play outside due to the weather, but we will surely visit in the summer! Very nice play area for the kids. Definitely a must visit I would say.

  • We arrived at this "farmstall restaurant" right next door to Mooiberge on R44 and had a light lunch at about 15h30. We had a feast indeed - friendly service, manager (owner), Kelly, very helpful and willing to please. The tomato pesto is brilliant. Will always be coming back! Well done Kelly! Liz - Debbie & Marie

  • Wow - what a surprise on a very hot day with the mist struggling to keep us cool my husband and I shared 2 pizzas. The special of the day with duck, brie and cranberries was truly the best we have ever eaten. Although the caramelised onion, camembert and walnuts gave it a good run! The food, service and surroundings were so good we didn't even notice the temperature!

  • It was our first time trying out this little restaurant and what a pleasant surprise. I had the homemade chicken, leek and mushroom pie. Loved the hand cut fries! My boyfriend had their pizza special for the day with pan-fried prawns, chorizo, chilli, lemon, cream and fresh coriander. Yum, yum, yum! The misting system outside was great especially with this summer heat. Will be back soon!

  • Yesterday my mother, my boyfriend and I took my grandmother for lunch at the Farmers Kitchen.

The homemade gingerbeer and lamb shank pie were very nice, but the salad leaves were extremely sandy, to such an extent that my boyfriend had to send back the wrap he ordered (the new one they brought for him was fine). So I would advise you to ask for properly washed salad from the get go!

Afterwards my grandmother wanted to visit the restroom - what a horrible experience!

There was no toilet paper in either one of the three stalls, the basins were filthy, the floor was soaking wet and looked like it hadn't seen a mop or broom in ages. One of the girls that either works at the restaurant or farm stall came out of one of the stalls (which also had no toilet paper) and my mother confronted her about the unacceptable condition of the restroom, after which she unlocked a cupboard and refilled the toilet paper holders (why she did not do this as soon as she saw there was no toilet paper, is beyond me).

When we took the remote back to the restaurant, my mother informed the manager of the shocking state of the restrooms. He did say that he would address the girls that work in the farm stall (who are responsible for the upkeep of the restrooms), but asked her to also address them about it as he feels they don't listen to him...bad idea! After my mother calmly told them about our experience, one of the girls apologized and the others were extremely defensive and gave weak excuses like they did put in toilet paper in the morning and that patrons steal the toilet paper and fittings in the bathroom.

After the unsavoury experience my grandmother noted that there are so many willing unemployed individuals in our midst, why not appoint someone to supervise and/or clean the restrooms and implement some kind of roster to ensure that it is clean and tidy, with ample toilet paper at all times, not only early in the morning.

Needless to say, we won't go back very soon...

  • What an adorable little place! We enjoyed the food, the coffee, the view, the people and the décor. After my first visit there, I went back three times that same month. I would recommend one to go and try out their burgers, gourmet pizzas and red-velvet cupcakes - yum! It is also a lovely spot to have a small jamboree, whether it’s for a kitchen tea, baby shower or birthday celebration, the food will not disappoint

  • The Farmer's Kitchen under the caring and meticulous eye of Kelly is a true gem! The pizzas are slight twists on classics and leave you wanting more! We held an event with them and all our guests were well looked after and are still raving about the service and food! Kelly went above and beyond to organise a wine tasting or two! A place to be, to relax, to be in love, to have a quick meeting or to entertain the girls for that overdue lucheon! Farmer's Kitchen, quality and quintessesially quaint, pop by!
