The British design glossy, Wallpaper*, has once again honoured the best in global design in their 2009 Design Awards.
This year the Best New Restaurant category was won by Boston-based BanQ – a sleek eatery situated in a former bank in the Massachusetts capital, where head chef Ranveer Brar brings together Indian, Vietnamese, Thai and French cuisines. The impressive interior, designed by Office dA, makes use of layered countours of birch that cover the ceiling and wall space.
The exotic main course selection at BanQ includes sesame swordfish with Thai curry braised lotis, cumin and miso beurre blanc; pan-seared Guinea hen breasts with chili-lime green beans, yam cake and smoked Darjeeling tea veloute; or Côtes du Rhône-braised shortribs with quick-tossed cumin and scallion (spring onion) scented yams with kaffir lime.
The other four shortlisted candidates included the Philippe Starck-designed Japanese restaurant, Katsuya, in Los Angeles; Italian eatery, LAnima, in London; contemporary Japanese restaurant, Megu, in Hong Kong; and swishy Pan-Asian restaurant, Zepra, in Tel Aviv.
