Today sees the launch of a new kind of pizza: one laced with the popular wellness ingredient cannabis oil.

In May this year, the Department of Health updated the regulations regarding cannabis in South Africa, removing it from the list of Schedule 7 drugs and making it legal to purchase.

Family-friendly pizza restaurant Col’Cacchio, with its 37 establishments across South Africa and Windhoek, is the first restaurant brand in the country to offer cannabis pizza on its menu, with two of its pizzas being served with the substance.

Choose between the Green Goddess (grilled zucchini, feta and fresh basil) and the Not-So-Plain Mary Jane (chicken, Peppadews, mushrooms and avocado dressing). (Want to try both? Take advantage of the ‘I Love Twosday’ two-for-one deal at Col’Cacchio until 27 August.)

You can also add CBD oil to any pasta or salad for an additional R25.

Wondering how much you’ll get? The maximum daily dose is currently 20 milligrams or less per person, which is the amount each pizza is drizzled with.
