The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, is a globally recognised programme which showcases leading trends and highlights exceptional restaurants from all corners of the Earth. Every restaurant in the world is eligible unless it is part of the Best of the Best group (restaurants that have made it to number 1 of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants over its 18-year history).

FYN Restaurant, which opened in late 2018, was placed 92 on last year’s list and was number 5 on Eat Out’s top 10 list at the 2019 Eat Out Restaurant Awards and was the winner of the Eat Out VISI Style Award in the same year.

The FYN Restaurant team, headed by chef Peter Tempelhoff and his partners, Ashley Moss and Jennifer Huge, take diners on a journey of flavours, textures, techniques and visual wonders. The kaiseki-style menu, consisting of five waves of courses, is a fusion of South African ingredients and Japanese cooking techniques, the likes of which have clearly impressed the World’s 50 Best academy.

The many months of SA’s lockdown were incredibly tough on restaurants across the country and FYN soldiered on, being one of the first fine dining restaurants to offer its food for home delivery. Then came the launch of their dark kitchen, ‘Stickman By FYN’, which served up yakitori to those eager for a taste of FYN that they could only get at home.

Congratulations to the FYN Restaurant team for making it to the number 37 spot in the world. What an achievement!

Find FYN on the fifth floor of Speaker’s Corner building, 37 Parliament Street, Cape Town.
