Chef Peter Tempelhoff, the force behind the FYN Group, has announced the upcoming opening of Arum Restaurant on Boschendal Wine Estate. Scheduled to launch later this year, Arum Restaurant will be located within the estate’s Werf building, the original wine cellar of the 1812 Manor House.

Peter will once again join forces with FYN Culinary Director Ashley Moss and Service and Beverage Director Jennifer Hugé to bring the new restaurant to life.
“For me, Arum is about honouring the land, the farm, and the history of the place – both of Boschendal and Franschhoek – through the mediums of fire and flavour,” Peter notes.
A central focus of Arum will be its produce-driven, fire-inspired approach to cooking. The restaurant aims to source the majority of its ingredients directly from the estate, working in close collaboration with Boschendal’s gardeners, growers and breeders. Over forty varieties of vegetables, herbs, fruit, roots and farm-raised meat are expected to feature on the menu. Techniques such as smoking, charring and grilling will underpin Arum’s food style, drawing a direct line from the farm’s ingredients to the plate.
“Boschendal is one of South Africa’s greatest agricultural gems,” says Peter. “Arum is our way of telling its story – through the produce it grows, the history, and, of course, the wine.”

The addition of Arum represents a new chapter for the Werf, which has operated as a restaurant since 1977 and holds a significant place in local culinary history. Amy Kropman, CEO at Boschendal, sees the partnership as an exciting evolution: “The Werf has long been a place where food and farming meet, and Arum will no doubt bring a fresh, world-class perspective to that heritage.”
Alongside the main dining area, the venue will introduce a contemporary bar, led by Jennifer, that will offer a menu of classic and experimental cocktails crafted from house-made tinctures, essences and shrubs – all inspired by the estate’s own produce.
Renovations are underway to restore and reimagine the historic building, with the team promising a space that balances Boschendal’s heritage with the contemporary flair synonymous with the FYN Group.
