Could this be the first Dunkin’ Donuts branch in SA?

Since Capetonians don’t have a Starbucks yet, we think this is just fair: Dunkin’ Donuts is, finally, almost here – albeit shrouded in speculation and mystery.

We reported in March that the first Dunkin’ was slated to land in Cape Town by June and since then it’s been a game of cloak and daggers – cloaking to be taken quite literally. Our super sleuthing resulted in what can only be described as either the most hilarious masking job ever or the smartest marketing move.

In July, signage for Dunkin Donuts was rather bravely put up for the space above the Burger King near N1 City, in Goodwood, tantalising the entire neighbourhood. A few weeks later, however, they were covered up with black bags. Which can only leave us wondering: What’s happenin’, Dunkin’?

While we can’t fault pairing up with a Burger King (sin goes best with sin), we are a bit puzzled about the location – then again, perhaps the residents of Goodwood need coffee and pastries, stat. We are a bit spoiled for choice in the CBD, with great local options like Truth Coffee, Hard Pressed Café and Dapper Coffee Co.

Still, we Capetonians do love to be spoiled, so we’re hoping this one opens soon so we can get our fill of franchise doughnuts and neon lights. Now just for Dunkin’ to remove those bags, open their doors and prepare for the hordes of hipsters and their complaints. We can’t wait.
