Grape picking at De Krans

There’s nothing like plucking a velvety grape, warm from the sun, and popping it straight into your mouth. The juices just seem that much sweeter.

Luckily, during February and the first few days of March, you can experience this summery pleasure for yourself. Deliciously sweet Hanepoot grapes are ripe for the picking in the quaint village of Calitzdorp, alongside the famous Route 62, at De Krans Wine Cellar.

Every day (except Sundays) from 8 February to 3 March 2012 from 8am until 4pm visitors can pluck handfuls of Hanepoot to their hearts' content. Grapes cost a mere R4.90/kg and you can bring your own containers or purchase them there at a minimal cost.

On Wednesdays and Saturdays between 11am and 2pm visitors can sit down to enjoy a braaivleis meal offered by Vygieshof Home for the Aged. Book in advance to ensure you don’t miss out.

Grape pickers are also welcome to sample, at no extra cost, the De Krans 2011 range of award-winning wines. One of these is the De Krans Cape Tawny Port, a double gold medal winner at the 2011 Michelangelo International Wine Awards. De Krans was named Champion Private Wine Cellar at the 2011 SA Young Wine Show and the De Krans 2009 Cape Vintage Reserve Port received a 5-star rating in the 2012 Platter's South African Wine Guide.

For bookings and further enquiries contact Helet Viljoen or Bessie Swanepoel at the farm on 044 213 3314 or email them at dekrans@mweb.co.za.
