Chef Candice Phillip leaves Grei

After fifteen years at the Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa, head chef Candice Phillip will bid farewell to Grei restaurant at the end of May.

“I have been fortunate enough to have worked with some amazing chefs and held down some equally amazing restaurants before seeing my own space and restaurant come to life,” says Phillip, the 2018 Eat Out Nederburg Rising Star. “Grei has been something I worked for my whole life and I am eternally grateful for the successes that Grei has gathered over such a short time. I am excited and look forward to my next chapter and the adventures that my next step holds.”

With chef Phillip at the helm, Grei has accumulated numerous accolades – the restaurant was only eight months old when it was nominated for The World’s Leading Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant 2018 and selected as one of the World’s 50 Best Discoveries 2019 by The World 50 Best Restaurants. The restaurant also made it onto the list of 2019 nominees for the Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards.

Grei Head Chef Candice Philip will be leaving the Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa at the end of May after being a valued part of the culinary team at the hotel for the past 15 years. During her time as part of the Saxon family, Chef Candice has held the position of Head Chef for five hundred as well as Luke Dale Roberts X Saxon. Her journey culminated in the launch of her own award-winning restaurant, Grei, at the hotel in 2018. Though we are very sad to see Chef Candice go, we thank her for her valuable contributions to the Saxon Culinary Journey and cannot wait to see where her next adventure will lead her. For the present, Chef Candice and her team looks forward to welcoming you to Grei.
