Highlights of the Durban Good Food and Wine Show

The Cape Town show saw a record-breaking 55 753 visitors earlier this year, and we had a chance to meet celebrity chefs Heston Blumenthal, James Martin and Celia Brooks Brown. This weekend, the Good Food and Wine Show comes to eThekwini. So what highlights are in store for Durbanites?

• Visit local restaurants at the Design a Bunny Chow platform, where they’ll be showcasing their interpretation of the popular street food.

• Take the kids to the entertainment area where CBeebies-presenter, Sid will take children on a “Good food journey”, teaching them about where food comes from and how to eat healthily.

• Star of Ainsley’s Meals in Minutes and Ainsley’s Barbeque Bible, Ainsely Harriott, will be there, up to his usual tricks in the Samsung Chefs in Action theatre. Book ahead for one of his four demonstrations, taking place on Friday and Saturday.

• If you’re a Masterchef Australia fan, don’t miss lovable contestant, Alvin Quah at the Samsung Chefs in Action theatre, today, tomorrow or Saturday.

• Fantastic chocolatier, Willie Harcourt-Cooze, will also be doing demonstrations at the Chefs in Action theatre. Book to see the star of Willie’s Wonky Chocolate Factory in action today, tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday.

• Irish celebrity chef and writer, Rachel Allen, will also present demonstrations, today, tomorrow and Saturday.

• Reza Mahammad, star of Delhi Belly, Coconut Coast and A Place in France, has his turn today and Saturday.

• If you’re a budding chef yourself, you can also participate in hands on workshops conducted by these chefs. Designed for small groups of 12, you’ll get personal attention from the celebrity chefs while preparing their personal recipes, but you’ll need to book fast to get a spot. Giggling Gourmet Jenny Morris, Clinton Bonhomme of the Lingela Restaurant and Kevin Joseph of the Grill Room at the Oyster Box will also be on hand, presenting workshops.
