Mondiall at the V&A Waterfront opens takeaway burger bar

The team at Mondiall Kitchen & Bar celebrated the restaurant’s first birthday last week with the opening of a New York-style takeaway burger bar.

The small Mondiall Burger Bar is nestled behind the main restaurant in the V&A Waterfront and offers a menu of freshly grilled burgers wrapped in paper and served express-style over the counter. Each (rather large) burger is handcrafted with 100% pure Angus beef or free-range chicken breast patties and adorned with a generous serving of fresh sliced tomato, lettuce, dill pickles, red onion and in some cases, a secret sauce. The menu currently features five choices: a classic beef burger (R55); a classic cheeseburger (R65); the ‘double double’ burger with two beef patties and double cheese (R85); the chipotle chicken burger with 100% pure free-range chicken breast patty, shaved cabbage, avocado and chipotle chili mayonnaise (R70); and the veggie burger with grilled aubergine, mushrooms, cheese, avocado and a seasonal secret sauce (R60). In addition to the standard menu, a blackboard describes the burger of the day and the dog of the day – a hot dog prepared with a free-range pork Vienna and the chef’s toppings of the day. All burgers may be enjoyed with a side of Mondiall’s signature French fries topped with truffles and Parmesan cheese (R28) or plain (R20).

“I’m a burger guy and I’ve wanted to open a burger bar since the beginning of Mondiall,” says Chef Peter Tempelhoff, co-founder of Mondiall and executive chef at The Greenhouse (a 2014 Eat Out Restaurant of the Year nominee.) You can also look forward to Mondiall’s brand new summer menu created by Tempelhoff and 24 year-old chef, Lauren Case. Expect an array of light tapas, grills, fresh seafood and decadent desserts.

The burger bar is open daily from 11am until late.
