Mother’s Day specials in Joburg

Life is full, days get manic and all of a sudden you realise you’ve forgotten to plan something special for Mother’s Day on Sunday 12 May. Worry not! It happens to the best of us and we’re here to help you with an inspired list of gorgeous places where you can celebrate.

At Hops End (Modderfontein)

This pub’s casual setting is great for a family get-together. On Mother’s Day, there will be a special brunch celebration between 11am and 4.30pm, featuring live music by Granville Michaels. Be sure to book your spot.

Aurelia’s Restaurant and Rosetta’s Bistro | Restaurant | Kitchen (Kempton Park)

These Emperors Palace eateries are both hosting Mother’s Day buffet lunches on 12 May. R425 will get you all-you-can-eat dining at Aurelia’s from 1pm to 3.30pm; while for R150 you can eat at Rosetta’s traditional buffet, topped up with a prawn station. Kids under the age of five eat free.

Balata Restaurant (Randburg)

Located at the Fairway Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, this award-winning fine-dining restaurant is renowned for its Mother’s Day Sunday lunch buffet. This year they’re doing it again for R470 per person. For the kids, there’s a ton of entertainment, including face painting, babysitters and a jumping castle. If you’d really like to pamper your mom, there’s also a high tea spa package on offer (R1 200 per person for the month of May). It includes high tea, a back, neck and shoulder massage, plus a deluxe mani and pedi.

Carnivore Restaurant (Muldersdrift)

Put your meat-eating mama in her element by treating her to Carnivore Restaurant’s feast. The Mother’s Day lunch costs R395 per person and R200 for children under the age of 12. You’ll also receive a complimentary dawa (a Kenyan cocktail comrpising honey, lime, white sugar, ice and vodka) on arrival.

Casalinga Ristorante Italiano (Muldersdrift)

Plan a memorable day out to make your mother figure feel extra special this Mother’s Day. Casalinga is serving a mouthwatering Sunday lunch that comes with a gift for mom (R695 per adult and R180 per child). There will also be a jumping castle to keep the little ones busy.

Clico Restaurant (Rosebank)

Treat your mom to a three-course, wine-paired meal prepared by head chef Neo Mkhwanazi for R520 per head (includes a welcome drink, as well as a thoughtful, handmade gift). The menu includes dishes like salmon gravlax paired with Muldersbosch Sauvignon Blanc or pumpkin soup paired with Holden Manz Rose; and  beef fillet paired with Morgenster Lourens River Valley Red or squid, prawns, mussels, and olives paired with Journey’s End Cabernet Sauvignon. Cradle Valley Guest House (Muldersdrift)

Live music? Check. Tranquil setting? Check. Delicious meal? Check. The special Mother’s Day lunch at Cradle Valley will cost you R285 per person for adults and R143 for children under the age of 12 and takes place from 1pm to 3pm.

Devonshire Hotel (Braamfontein)

With mains such as kleftiko leg of lamb, pork osso bucco and seared Greek chicken on the menu, along with tasty sides, fresh starters and lip-smacking desserts, this Mother’s Day lunch will put you in your mom’s good books. Adults pay R355, while children under the age of 12 pay R189 and those under the age of six eat for free.

GROUND Venue (Muldersdrift)

If it’s spoils and pampering you’re planning to give your mom this year, GROUND can take care of it for you (with a wholesome meal thrown in for good measure). The meal is served in a breathtaking setting and there will also be live music, kids’ activities and a Sherbet Angel beauty bus salon for moms.

Maximillien Restaurant (Sandton)

The DaVinci hotel is taking Mother’s Day to a whole new level with a sparkling brunch buffet at the pool deck. For R395 per person, the meal includes sparkling wine and a gift for all moms from Jimmy Choo.

Misty Hills (Muldersdrift)

This stunning hotel invites you and your mother to experience a taste of African hospitality at its finest, with a buffet lunch. The cost is R395 per person or R200 for children under the age of 12.

oneNINEone (Rosebank)

Treat mom to a swanky lunch at the modern and oh-so-stylish oneNINEone. The lunch, which costs R550 per person, starts at midday and includes a glass of bubbly with oysters, local cheeses and tacos filled with crusted line fish, whisky-glazed pulled pork, kataifi chicken breasts and a selection of opulent desserts.

Rodizio (Bedfordview)

Choose from four set menus, ranging from R255 to R335 per person, for a memorable Mother’s Day lunch that includes live entertainment. Every mom also receives a glass of bubbly. Book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Stonehaven on Vaal (Vanderbijlpark)

Up for a little road trip? Head out to the Vaal. Just 45 minutes from Joburg you’ll find a picturesque scene on the river banks. It’s here where you can enjoy a Mother’s Day breakfast buffet for R109 per person or a lunch buffet for R270 per person. There are loads of activities to keep the kids busy and they can choose from the many treats on offer too. To take things up a notch, you could also book a breakfast or lunch cruise on the Vaal.

Valverde Eco Hotel (Muldersdrift)

A three-course meal in a beautiful garden setting is a lovely way to spend the day with your mom and that’s exactly what you’ll get here from 12pm (R325 per person).
