Established by acclaimed chef and restaurateur Luke Dale Roberts, The Shortmarket Club, which offers modern European cuisine, will be transformed into Ocaso under the ownership of established restaurateur Heinz Rynners. Formal ownership of the restaurant has been transferred to Heinz as of today, with the existing restaurant remaining in operation until 31 January.

Set to open in April, Ocaso, established in collaboration with Corona, will offer a Mexican-inspired dining experience.
As a seasoned restaurateur, Heinz is the mastermind and driving force behind some of Joburg’s most-loved restaurants, including Joy Jozi, The Greenhouse Bar and Restaurant, and Livy’s. Joining Heinz in the operational running of Ocaso as partners are Ben Stanger and Luke Dakers. Together, the trio aims to establish Ocaso as a standout dining destination in the City of Gold.
“With the help of Ben and Luke at the operational helm, and the incredible partnership with Corona, we’re creating something truly special. Ocaso will blend bold Mexican influences with South African hospitality, offering adventurous shared plates, premium tequila, and a curated Corona beer selection,” says Heinz.
Leading Ocaso’s kitchen will be Tyron Gentry, the current head chef of The Shortmarket Club, who will continue to showcase his culinary flair and innovation and bring Mexican-inspired cuisine to life while maintaining the standard of excellence that diners have come to love.
