Exciting news for Cape Town residents and visitors to the city! The talented husband-and-wife team Eloise and Alex Windebank, known for their Eat Out award-winning restaurant, Farro, at Gabriëlskloof Wine Estate in Botrivier, are opening in an exciting new venue in the Cape Town CBD.
Located in Wandel Street, Gardens, the restaurant will settle into its new home in a restored Victorian house. Eloise says that the new space embraces a minimalist approach, serving a seasonal five-course menu in Alex’s modern-European style.

The space includes a cocktail bar on the ground floor, which leads through to an open kitchen. Upstairs, two dining rooms, offering views of Table Mountain, will provide an intimate setting for twenty-six guests.
“With this next step of Farro, we wanted to rekindle the intimacy of our original restaurant,” Eloise says. (The original restaurant being in Illovo, Johannesburg). “When we walked into this tiny, rickety, old terraced house in Gardens, we instantly fell in love with its potential. Farro is such a personal restaurant, and this really is a culmination of the last eight years of work. This feels like us showing the heart of Farro and welcoming people into our home.”
The menu will follow a progression that has become familiar to fans of Farro’s recent pop-ups: a selection of snacks to start, followed by a handmade pasta dish, then sustainably sourced fish, ethically reared meat, and finally, a beautiful dessert. To whet your appetite, look forward to dishes such as smoked-kudu tartare, potato ravioli, truffled agnolotti, pan-fried kabeljou, and – wait for it – the return of Farro’s famous beignets!

On the drinks front, the wine list, curated by the couple, showcases a selection of South Africa’s finest, with an emphasis on smaller producers and unusual varietals. The cocktail menu combines classics with newer creations, all crafted with care by Eloise.
We’re excited to see Farro’s new chapter unfold!
Bookings for Farro Cape Town will open online on Tuesday 23 September 2025.
