Sweet mama

If you’re not one for forced celebrations and would rather do something slightly different for Mother’s Day, I have put together a few ideas that might suit your mom.

If you fancy a bit of pampering, try the buffet at The Verandah Restaurant at the Beach Hotel in Port Elizabeth. I’ve just heard that chef Vanie Padayachee is consulting there!

Dixie's near Simon’s Town has that old-fashioned vibe and serves up good food. Their Sunday lunches are legend but make sure you book.

The very new EateryJhb in Parkview is open for brunch and if the banana and dark-chocolate waffles are anything to go by, then I need not say anything more. If you’d like to pick up something to go, Massimo's in Hout Bay is open again – so try one or two of the gourmet pizzas made with the real-deal ingredients and munch at a scenic spot close by.

Whether it’s hot or cold on Sunday, warm Indian food is always a good call. Al Makka Restaurant & Takeaway in Fordsburg will delight you with hot buttery naans to mop up an array of one of its many fragrant curries.

Down South in Durban’s La Lucia, Al Firenze promises hearty authentic Italian ragus baked in wood-fired ovens.

And, last but not least, if you are in the Cape this weekend, make sure you sample some of the chefs selected dishes at Taste of Cape Town.

See you there!
