Johannesburg

Fat Zebra (Linden)
I had read all about their eggs Benedict so decided to give The Fat Zebra a try. Seated in 30 seconds, attended to by the owner/ manager Shaun and served by Craig the waiter. Brilliant coffee and great breakfast. Definitely worth another visit. Well done guys on great service and food. – Jonathan Broekman

The Grove Green Café (Parktown North)
On the spur of the moment, my sister-in-law suggested we try somewhere different for lunch. Feeling like an afternoon of spoonful fun, we found ourselves exploring this new menu on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Nestled in a sheltered corner of Parkhurst, this quaint oasis is a wonderful ‘clean’ eating destination. The cafe has secure parking and a helpful car attendant. Breakfast, mains, treats, smoothies, juices and coffees are available on a sit down and takeaway basis. Meals are reasonably priced and we definitely felt that it was value for money. All food is freshly prepared and in limited stock to ensure good quality produce. The herb garden forms the back wall of the seating area and has large trees, which give it a feeling of being out in nature. Despite the atmosphere being relaxed, the service was great and our orders were delivered in good time. With comfy couches, free WiFi and your furry best friend at your side, it’s a great little place! – Candice Mes

Pasta Café (Randburg)
One of the best pastas I have ever eaten. Incredible pasta each freshly made to order, with fresh rolls made on site served before the pasta. Wish I had known about it before. What a gem. Wonderful concept to customise your meal. I am delighted they use free-range eggs, free-range beef and fresh ingredients. They can also do gluten free and dairy free. The food is fantastic. I will be back soon. Excellent service and very good value for money. – Linda Thompson

Vini’s (Bedfordview)
The owner of Vinni’s, Billy, helped me plan my husband’s 30th birthday. Billy and his daughter, Kirstie, went out of their way to make the evening a massive success. He gave us a phenomenal set menu with starters, mains and dessert for under R150 a head. The food was amazing and the portion size massive. All the waiters have excellent manners and very good sense of humour. The place is clean and the vibe very pleasant! We booked the outside area and enjoyed our meal while live entertainment played in the background. Billy has made a few new regular customers and we can’t wait to go back! The pizza, pastas and their chocolate mousse are out of this world! – Cherise Hickley

Durban

The Chairman
Cosy spot on the old point road in Durban. You would never think that such a place existed until you entered on the red carpet through the carved wooden doors. I have enjoyed all the visits I have had in this place. ¬– Trisha Ramiah

Del Mar (Camps Bay)
Went to Del Mar for my birthday dinner. We were a table of 7, and what a great experience! We tried a little of everything and I have to say, I was impressed. This is authentic, real, Mexican food. Our waiter Dylan was a star – very knowledgeable about all the dishes available and he made GREAT recommendations! Great margarita and tequila selections as well. You must give Del Mar a try, you will not be disappointed! – David Edwards

Woodlands Eatery (Vredehoek)
Love this consistent place. And it’s open on a Monday – always a bonus. The tacos (turn over to back page of menu) are a welcome addition to the menu since I was last here. I had the fish tacos – a generous portion of perfectly battered and fried fish, served with three corn tortillas, and two different slaws and guacamole. The fish could do with a bit of seasoning, but other than that, it was delicious! – Kelly Cloete
