Urban dining at Melrose Arch

Breakfast meetings, leisurely lunches, family dinners… whatever the occasion, Melrose Arch offers a suitable – and stylish – dining solution. Set amongst office blocks, apartments and retail space, the urban precinct offers a host of restaurants across a variety of genres – from Greek and Italian to Asian and African. We pick some of our favourites.

Best for a caffeine fix: Deli on High

Whether it’s an early morning breakfast or a Sunday high tea, this is the best bet for a cuppa and some cake.

Best for special occasions: Madame Zingara (Melrose Arch)

The circus has come to Melrose Arch – and along with it wonderful food and lots of fun and laughter.

Best for family dining: Mezepoli

Parents can dine al fresco on a multitude of Greek delicacies whilst watching the children running around the piazza.

Best for foreign visitors: Moyo

A sensory experience of African cuisines in all its glory. The North African tagines and springbok shanks are particularly good.

Best for pizza – every day of the week: Piza e Vino

Enjoy traditional and designer pizzas from a wood-fired oven in this buzzing restaurant.

Best for ladies who lunch: Tasha's

Surely one of Joburg’s favourite franchises, Tashas is a consistently good bistro experience. The menu is fresh and interesting and the cakes and pastries delectable.

Best for a retro night out: Pigalle

With the abundance of crystal chandeliers, plush seating and dinner jackets, Pigalle is not one for a quiet, quick dinner. Rally up a group of friends and enjoy a lavish night with Portuguese-inspired food.

Best for a power-shopping pit stop: W Tapas Bar

Set within one of Joburg’s most magnificent Woolworths branches, this is just the spot for a coffee or snack before, during or after serious retail theraphy.

Best for chic Italian dining: Mangiare

The directional interior masks the fact that there’s some excellent Italian-inspired food on offer. Think golden chanterelle and porcini tart and limoncello crispy duck.

Best for a romantic first date: Orient
Sharing a platter of sushi or dim sum is just the thing to do in this glamorous Asian restaurant. Don’t miss the downstairs bar for after-dinner drinks.

Best for hipsters and gym bunnies: V-Café

Set within the Virgin Active Classic Club, this place is as much about seeing (or watching) as about being seen. The food is hearty and healthy and the setting plush.
