Vitality at the Voodoo Lily Cafe

Are you after Fairtrade food and locally sourced, organic products without losing that yum factor? Janine Walker discovers a healthy haven for the whole family at Voodoo Lily Cafe in Sandhurst.

Food ?
The ethos here is to serve fair trade products and as much locally sourced organic food as possible. However, healthy doesn’t have to mean that you lose the yum factor. The shakshuka with its poached eggs, spicy tomato and pepper salsa and feta is a great breakfast option, as are the nutty crumpets with clotted cream and berries. There is a wide variety of salads (the couscous with roasted and crispy stir-fried veggies is tasty) as well as more substantial fare, such as the home-made voodoo burger of free-range beef, Thai chicken (or tofu) curry or lentil bobotie.

Wine ?
Bring your own or opt for one of the many freshly squeezed juices or wide range of herbal teas.

Service ?
Friendly, but can be a bit slow. Sometimes you have to attract the waiters’ attention.

Ambience ?
The interior is airy and modern with white plastic chairs and tables made out of reclaimed aluminium and recycled compressed plastic bottles and husks. ?

And… ?
The Little Lily menu means that young visitors can also eat healthy and delicious fare.
