Ed’s Diner

I came to Ed’s diner Parkview for lunch with my boyfriend. We are both 21, and have been for over 6 months. We chose to sit in the bar area, and noted the sign saying “over 21’s only”. We sat down and wanted to order some drinks. The waiter said “can I assume you are both over 21?”, which I believe is a really great way to pose the question. Trying to avoid embarrassment as the waiter was not speaking softly, my boyfriend spoke for the both of us, saying “yes, that is a good assumption”. Despite this, after taking our drinks order (we didn’t order alcohol yet) he came back, and said that there are other people who don’t believe what we say and would like to see our IDs, which we gladly showed. I completely understand the need to do so, but it is what followed that I feel was highly inappropriate. A lady (I did not catch her name) who we found out was the manager when she came to authorize the payment, starting loudly complaining and reprimanding the waiter who served us that he must check again, and that was he sure we are over 21, and “doesn’t being born in 1995 make us only 20”. She carried on so loudly with similar remarks, that we could hear her, and so could our friends sitting outside the bar. This is NO WAY to treat your customers, and while the food was okay, it was not nearly good enough to forget that kind of abuse. We felt humiliated and embarrassed at the public spectacle made of us even though WE ARE BOTH 21! When I emailed to complain, I was met with disrespect and a dismissal of the issue.
