Southpole. Sunset BeachWe were but so totally blown away with our feast at Southpole on Saturday (9th August). We hadn’t booked and the restaurant was almost full. My first thought when we were placed at a table right next to the glass fronted kitchen, was that it wasn’t a good seating. However, as the evening evolved and we observed the young chefs preparing the food, we realised that we actually had the best table in the restaurant. The imaginative and well presented food flowed from the complementary Amuse Bouche (ours were fresh oysters) right through to the last sip of wine. It was a good choice ordering a starter of Springbok Carpaccio. For the main course I had a beautifully grilled line fish with prawn croquette, while my partner settled for the Lamb Medallions Chorizo and dessert was a most delicious Chocolate Malva. As we lingered over a bottle of Thelema Merlot, we were presented with a plate of freshly cooked tiny doughnuts, lightly dusted with sugar and drizzled with caramel. Then we watched in amazement as the chefs donned protective gloves, got stuck in and cleaned the kitchen - all in view of the diners. We would like to thank Chef Yngve and his cheerful team for an unforgettable evening. To the two ladies at the table next to us, our apologies for obstructing your view of the kitchen. With subdued lighting and quietly romantic music this was an evening to remember. William Izzard
