Kgomotso Moncho-Maripane

The hearty meals brim with comfort, from the Cape Malay mussel pot with fresh mussels in a traditional West Coast creamy curry sauce and crostini to the peri peri chicken livers for starters.

In the mains, the oxtail in red wine with seasonal vegetables and mashed potato is a go-to dish. So is the three-hour lamb shank with rosemary, red wine and vegetables. For an exotic taste, the Barbadian chicken – grilled chicken breast marinated in garlic, ginger and fresh red chilli, and served with mashed potato, avocado and pineapple salsa – is a pretty-looking, delicious dish. There are options of burgers, pasta, seafood and combination meals, as well as spicy delights for variety.

If you want to go light, there are fresh, tasty salads and a selection of deli treats, including quesadillas, wraps and toasted sandwiches. Vegetarian options are available.

For dessert, the molten chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream and roasted almonds goes down well.

A selection of South African wines plus freshly squeezed specialty juices and decadent smoothies.

Relatively efficient and friendly.

A combination of a café and a restaurant, Circus Circus spills out into the buzz of the Gateway mall ground floor, but is cleverly situated on the periphery leading outside. The inside is a warm escape of contemporary décor with vintage and architectural undertones.

Best for…
A quality meal for those dinner-and-movie dates or for a satisfying lunch before or after your business in the mall.

The is atmosphere is modern and very relaxed. The service is excellent , staff very friendly. Excellent variety of burgers made with the freshest ingredients. Burgers are huge and accompanied by the nest chips
The location of the restaurant is great because you are able to be in Gateway but feel like you are on the outside. I must commend the staff that are always waiting to sit you down, when i last went it was full so it was difficult to get decent service on time. My food was average-considering the price. It was just a sandwitch for like R70 but at least my drink made up for it . The place is not bad I would go back there hopefully without it being too full.
This is one of our favourite restaurants when visiting Umhlanga! We've only had good experiences there. The food is absolutely delicious and the friendliest service you'll ever get! We love going to the 'Circus' :)
Fish cakes served for breakfast were not cooked
