Owner's description

The team behind Sea Point Jarryds – and latterly the hip rotisserie chicken spot The Chicken Shop – have announced plans to open up their second branch of Jarryds on the corner of Cape Town’s hippest restaurant road, Bree Street. The focus will be on breakfast and lunch, with a reduced version of the Sea Point menu.

Guests can expect a selection of Benedicts, their breakfast bruschetta, smoothie bowls and a few more added dishes. Coffee is supplied by the Espresso Lab and will also be a focus.

The service was fine so that doesn't deserve a 1, however the food was so bad I will never go back; hence the 1 rating. Firstly, "R60 avg main meal" listed under details on eatout is incorrect; the food is very overpriced! An average breakfast was around R100, and the rest of the meal options were over R100. I got the veg burger because it seemed like it’d be the best value for money (R110) and it came with “hand cut chips”, but the burger was SO salty and the chips were not hand cut - more like McCain or something - and they were covered in a salty “chip spice” the waiter called it. I gave them to my partner and didn’t even finish the burger. My partner got the breakfast burger and was equally unhappy; the egg was overcooked, the bacon was so salty it didn’t even taste like bacon, there was no Swiss cheese as had been listed on the menu, and the beef patty was tiny and overcooked. The coffee unfortunately was also disappointing. I last went to the Bree Street Jarryds in 2017 and remember having a good meal, however this recent experience was so unlike the Jarryds in seapoint, we wouldn't be surprised if it was a completely new restaurant that had forgotten to change the name. Next time we will drive the extra distance to seapoint instead.

Cute spot with a great balcony. I can recommend the Benedict.

A classier interior is hard to find, Jarryds on Bree did it once again! Style meets taste in this perfect new addition to the Bree buzz. The carefully curated interior reminds me of The Loading Bay, with the addition of lush green plants and creative seating areas on the stairs. With Espresso Lab's coffee and the same extensive menu you'll find in Seapoint, this is the ideal pre-work breakfast spot if you work in town. Everything from the best poached eggs to smoothie bowls and french toast. Service is friendly and respectful.
