Food
Seafood is never more pleasurable than when it’s eaten within a stone’s throw of the sea. The Fat Fish serves only sustainable seafood and sushi lovers won’t want to miss half-price weekend specials such as California Queens, California rolls topped with a tempura prawn or salmon.

Grilled catch of the day could be hake or monkfish served with baby potatoes and vegetables steamed with lemon thyme and sauced in butter. Monkfish tail, roasted and served with butterbean and tomato stew and salsa verde, or a poke bowl with salmon or tofu, are also worth trying.

For a special celebration, seafood platters for one or two are a treat. Vegetarians are catered for with dishes such as Thai green vegetable curry, and green pea and ricotta wholewheat linguine with mint gremolata. Big Fat Tapas includes appetiser-sized portions of Cajun deep-fried baby squid, lentil and pea samoosa, oysters, and whitebait in black garlic aioli. Meat eaters can choose chargrilled ostrich or first-rate Chalmar beef from the grill menu.

Don’t even think about leaving without sampling the Fat Delights. Think scrumptious chilli chocolate mousse with notes of coffee or white chocolate crème brûlée with berries and lavender shortbread.

Drinks
An excellent and comprehensive wine and cocktail menu includes outstanding wines from the Western Cape with an emphasis on the Garden Route vineyards. Among the many wines by the glass, owner Simon Ash’s White and Red are both lovely, balanced blends that offer good value. Cocktails range from elegant champagne cocktails to a spicy Bloody Mary. Among an extensive gin selection are excellent South African craft gins that are best savoured neat.

Service
Owner Simon takes pride in every detail of his restaurant and helpful, savvy staff reflect his ethic.

Ambience
The light and fresh interior with great views mixes sand-and-sea casual with a spiffy mirrored bar that makes it a refined venue for special occasions.

Best for…
Big groups or family lunches and dinners (children’s menu available), special celebrations, drinks and sundowners, with live music in season.

We only eat small kitchen. But it was great .
Lovely venue, excellent food and wine, with beautiful views of the ocean. Very relaxed and good service

Fantastically fresh and tasty. Not your run-of-the-mill restaurant. Great service, relaxing vibe, beautiful views, make it a must-do.

Excellent selection of goodies on their menu, executed with style and utterly delicious, this is not to be missed. We had excellent service and every item that we ordered off the menu was great.
