While cheese and chocolate paired with wine will always remain matches made in heaven, wine’s flavour, aroma and mouthfeel actually complement a variety of sweet and savoury foods. From pizza pairings to crêpe cakes and MCC, here are five ingenious food-and-wine pairings around the Cape.
For only R85, indulge in four decadent, freshly baked cupcakes, each paired with a special wine. The tasting includes a pomegranate cupcake matched with Delheim Pinotage Rosé. A rooibos cupcake infused with lemon and topped with a cream-cheese-and-honey icing is paired with the Delheim Chenin Blanc Wild Ferment. The Delheim Pinotage comes with a pumpkin-and-vanilla cupcake infused with star anise, cinnamon and nutmeg. And, last but not least, comes a traditional African Makataan cupcake to go with the Delheim Gewürztraminer. The experience is available seven days a week between 9am and 4.30pm at Delheim’s tasting room. Call 0218884600 or email email@example.com to book.
This extremely popular wine pairing sees seasonal homemade scoops paired with the estate’s popular wines. The events happen once a month with a different crêpe cake offering at each one. On 28 October, tuck into a variety of CocoaFair-flavoured crêpe cakes with flowing Steenberg MCC.
