Winter is buzzing with food and drinks festivals – from margaritas and tacos in Cape Town to wine tasting in Elgin and pinotage on tap in Durban, we’ve got you covered with upcoming foodie events you don’t want to miss.

Cape Town

Margaritas & Tacos (City Bowl)

Enjoy the new Thursday bottomless margaritas and taco nights at the Southern Sun in Cape Town. Every Thursday, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, you’ll get bottomless margaritas and a complimentary platter of tacos at the Waterfront pool bar. It costs R180 and booking is essential.

Steenberg Toasts Spring (Constantia)

A 5km or 10km trail run (or walk) will take place in the Steenberg vineyards, with each participant receiving a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. The run is set to take off at 7am, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to True North Early Childhood Development. Tickets are available on Webtickets.

Elgin Winter Wine Tasting Fair (Elgin)

The first-ever Elgin winter wine festival is happening just as we say goodbye to the cold season. The festival will be held indoors with an epic fireplace, showcasing wines of the Elgin area and allowing you to meet the winemakers. The tickets are on sale on Quicket for R150, giving you access to an Elgin winter wine festival glass and wine tastings.

Stadsaal Soiree (Stellenbosch)

Once a month the people of Stellenbosch take to the streets for the Stadsaal Soiree. Wine cellars are showcased, and food stalls and great music are also on offer.

Winter is here but that does not mean hibernation! The Stellenbosch Street Soirees are being repackaged in a winter edition called Stadsaal Soiree! This cosy Stadsaal Soiree will be taking place in the Stellenbosch Town Hall in Plein Street. This Pop-up Wine Festival will have the same look and feel as the Street Soiree, just indoors! Each Soiree will feature a selection of cellars showcasing their wines and restaurants and street fare caterers will be selling their delicious food. Mercury Wine Week (Greyville)

Mercury Wine Week is Kwazulu-Natal largest wine show, bringing together over 75 wine farms and brands; with 400 people expected to attend. The wine week will also offer food and wine pairings, a food market area, and a gin, whiskey and champagne bar. Tickets are on sale online at Itickets for R120 (or R160 at the door).
