Winter restaurant specials for 2017

The chilly season is upon us, but we’ve got some comfort to offer. We present a bumper list of great winter specials to coax you out of your slippers and into the cold for meals that are more than worth it, from fondues and curries to potjiekos and brisket.

Countrywide

Col’Cacchio Pizzeria
Receive the lowest-priced pizza free when you order any gourmet pizza on a Monday. This special is available all day on Monday until 31 August at all branches of Col’Cacchio and is valid for sit-down and collection only.

Hussar Grill
At this popular steak house, diners can indulge in a two-course winter lunch for R125. Dishes include peri-peri chicken livers, calamari, or tomato soup for starters and rump, parmesan chicken or fried calamari for mains. This special is available Monday to Saturday from 12 noon to 5pm.

Johannesburg

Moyo (Melrose Arch and Zoo Lake)
Tuck into the winter set menu at R185 per person for two courses and R225 for three courses. This special is valid until the end of August and is available at Zoo Lake all day Monday to Friday and from 6pm onwards on Saturdays and Sundays. At Melrose Arch it is available all day Monday to Friday.

The Brazen Head (Fourways)
Enjoy a 400g–500g T-bone steak with your choice of side (rice, chips, veg or side salad) for R69.95.

Vinis Restaurant (Bedfordview)
This winter, receive R25 off all rib and prawn dishes on Mondays at Vinis. Mondays and Tuesdays also allow you to enjoy any pizza or pasta dish for R59.95 (or the lamb masala calzone for R69.95). These specials are valid for sit-down only. Also take advantage of the three-for-two special: Order any three pizzas and receive the cheapest one free. This is available for takeaways from Monday to Sunday only. All specials are available until 31 August.

On Mondays, get three of the same colour-coded plates for the price of two.

Pretoria

De Kloof (Waterkloof)
De Kloof is running a set lunch menu from 12 noon to 3pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Pay R195 for three courses. The starter is a bread board with a selection of three canapés. For mains, choose between roasted aubergine, Persian chicken, or beef cheek with a samp bake. To finish your meal, try the malva pudding with custard and shortbread or ‘The Caribbean’, which is a rum baba with various ice creams and mousses.

DK Burger (Waterkloof Ridge)
Get two burgers for the price of one all day on Tuesdays until 30 September. This special is available for sit-down only and is valid for burgers only, not any sides, sauces or add-ons.

Durban

Afro’s Chicken (Windermere)
Grab an all-day breakfast combo, which comprises a bacon-and-egg roll and a coffee for only R40. This special is only available at the Churchill Road branch.

Atasca (Durban North)
Take advantage of the daily lunch special from 12pm to 3pm. This includes two courses for R139 or three courses for R149. Both come with a complimentary carafe of wine. On Mondays there is also a Munch More special where you get half a chicken and calamari with a ginjinha cocktail for R99. On Tuesdays, feast out with the family and enjoy a platter of whole chicken, calamari, scampi, squid heads, chips, rice and fresh Portuguese rolls for R289.

Beluga (Gateway)
Beluga has developed a reputation for the daily special that runs from 11am to 7pm from Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday. Pay half price for all sushi, dim sum and cocktails or ask your waiter about the great platter specials.

Pay half price for all burgers and pastas every Tuesday.

Havana Grill (North Beach) and Little Havana (Umhlanga)
Enjoy a two-course lunch for R120 or a three-course lunch for R140, with a complimentary glass of Wolftrap red, white or rosé, or a 330ml Heineken or Amstel Lager. This special is available until the end of October.

Jack Salmon (Glenashley)
Enjoy 30 to 50% off sushi from 12.30pm to 6.30pm every weekday (excludes public holidays).

Moyo (uShaka)
Tuck into the winter set menu at R185 per person for two courses and R225 for three courses. This special is valid until the end of August and is available all day, Monday to Sunday.

Olive & Oil (Glenwood)
Selected pizzas and pastas are R79.95 on Mondays, and a date-night platter is R349.95 per couple on Tuesdays. Sunday is family day at Olive & Oil, where one child eats free from the children’s menu with a parent eating from the à la carte menu. A leisurely lunch special incorporates a two-course (R139.95) or three-course meal (R149.95) with a complimentary glass of wine. Also nab half-price cocktails Mondays to Thursdays from noon to 7pm.

Cape Town

Arnold’s on Kloof (Gardens)
Arnold’s has a number of specials to look forward to. Order the Early Bird breakfast special before 7am from Monday to Friday and pay R23. Also try the all-day chef’s breakfast (runs until 5pm) that comes with a cappuccino, tea or orange juice for R62. Daily happy hour from 4.30pm to 6.30pm means all drinks and cocktails are at special prices.

Beerhouse on Long (City Bowl)

Beerhouse on Long is doing R60 lunch specials that change daily. Enjoy them with a beer from Monday to Friday.

Bistro Sixteen82 (Tokai)
Have breakfast at Bistro Sixteen82 and receive a complimentary tea or coffee from Monday to Friday. Also on offer is a selection of five tapas for two to share (R300) from 5pm to 8pm every day, for tables of up to ten people. Both specials are available until 30 September. For lunchtime, enjoy a hearty two-course meal for R185, or a three-course meal for R215, or four courses for R245. Alternatively, enjoy the vintners breakfast during weekdays until 21 July, which includes breakfast, a cellar tour and classic tasting for R150 per person.

Blanko (Constantia)
For both dinner and lunch, get a two-course set menu at R220 and a three-course menu at R260. The offering is valid from May until August 2017.

Bungalow (Clifton)
Enjoy a two-course set menu for R200, or a three-course one for R240. Dishes will include grilled halloumi salad, fish and chips, Thai curry, and malva pudding. The special is valid until August 2017.

Burger & Lobster (City Bowl)
Enjoy two-for-one happy hour everyday from 4pm to 7pm. This includes a selection of draught beers, wines by the glass and selected signature cocktails.

Cape Town Fish Market (Big Bay, V&A Waterfront, Canal Walk, Tyger Valley, Stellenbosch, Tokai and Grand West)
Pay R50 for hake and burgers on Mondays; get 50% off sushi and 25% off sushi platters on Tuesdays; and pay R199 for a Granger Bay seafood platter or R99 for the Fish Hoek platter on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, save up to R110 on sushi platters. There is also a wine promo, for which you can receive complimentary prawn spring rolls when you order a bottle of Lord’s sauvignon blanc or pinot noir.

Catch 22 (Table View)
Sit down on Thursdays for the two-for-one sushi special, for which you can receive a second portion of your selected sushi free when you order maki, California rolls, fashion sandwiches, nigiri, sashimi or salmon roses, along with a minimum of one drink. This is available from 5pm to 10pm.

Catharina’s (Tokai)
Enjoy the two- or three-course lunch alternative to executive chef Archie Maclean’s full à la carte and tasting menus. The two-course winter lunch is available for R165, or R195 for three courses.

Cin Cin Restaurant at the Colosseum Hotel (Century City)
Tuck into the ‘perfect combo’ special of 500g ribs, 500g chicken and two SAB beers to share for R150. This special is available from Monday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. On Wednesdays indulge in the seafood platter, accompanied with a glass of house white wine, for R149.

City Grill (V&A Waterfront)
Receive 50% off all gourmet steaks and burgers. The special is available from Monday to Sunday between 11am and 7pm and will run until 31 August 2017.

Cheyne’s (Hout Bay)

Enjoy the winter specials on offer at Cheyne’s this season. Tuck into any two dishes at R120 per person. This offer is valid at lunchtime on Friday and Saturday only.

Clarke’s (City Bowl)
Get two farm eggs on toast with a coffee or an orange juice for R30 on Mondays to Fridays, or enjoy the two-for-one cheeseburger special on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm.

The Deckhouse Crab Shack & BBQ (City Bowl)
Receive 25% off all food on the menu from 11am to 6pm. This special is valid from Monday to Friday throughout winter. Or go on Tuesdays for 500g of mussels with a draught beer for R70. Also get 25% off all crab dishes on a Wednesday. Go again on Friday, when you can get a pint with a bucket of bacon bites for R50.

Dalliance (V&A Waterfront)
Dalliance is offering a winter night to remember with a two-course set menu for R190 or three courses for R230. Choose from mussels, ostrich carpaccio and a mushroom cappuccino soup for starters and, for mains, braised ostrich, caramelised duck, honey-baked white fish and chickpea-and-tomato curry. Finish with churros, bread-and-butter pudding or white-chocolate-and-ginger spring rolls. This special is available until 31 August.

Engruna Eatery (Sea Point)
Bite into the two-for-one burger special this winter. Buy one burger and get the other free every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night.

FABER (Paarl)
Warm up with FABER’s winter lunch special. With a zero wastage philosophy, chef Eric Bulpitt created a three-course set menu that makes use of fresh produce from Avondale. Experience it for R250 per person, Wednesdays to Sundays from 12noon to 2.30pm. This special will run until 30 September.

Foxcroft (Constantia)
Try any of the three specials at this award-winning eatery. Go for the Bottomless Bubbly, which is R195 per person for as many glasses of champagne as you’d like when you order it with any meal (valid from 15 May to 29 June). Or go for either the winter lunch special (valid until 31 August) or the tapas lunch special (valid until 29 June). With the winter lunch special, get four courses for R295 per person Mondays to Thursdays. For R195 you can choose three tapas with the tapas lunch special.

Goloso Restaurant (Sea Point)
Tuck into daily lunch specials. For R99 per person, you can choose any traditional pizza or traditional pasta and receive a 500ml Darling Brew Slow Beer between 12.30pm and 4pm. Or go for an early dinner, when you can get any two traditional pizzas or traditional pastas with a bottle of wine for R250 between 5pm and 7pm. Both specials are available Mondays to Sundays and are valid from 1 June to 10 September.

The Greek Fisherman (V&A Waterfront)
Go all-out on seafood by paying R140 for your first seafood platter and only R70 for your second. This special is available Thursday to Tuesday between 11am and 7pm, and on Wednesdays between 11am and 11pm. It is valid from 1 June to 31 August.

Greenhouse at the Cellars-Hohenhort (Constantia)
Experience a fine dining experience in the lush Constantia Valley, for either lunch or dinner. Have lunch on a Friday or Saturday (between 12pm and 2pm), with four courses for R395 per person. Or go for dinner Tuesdays to Thursdays (6pm to 7.30pm) and enjoy seven courses for R750 per person. Both special menus will be similar to their usual menu, with an African-inspired theme, and will be available 1 June to 31 August.

Harbour House (Kalk Bay)
Indulge in Harbour House’s winter set menu by choosing between two courses (R195 or R220 with a glass of wine) or three courses (R215 or R240 with a glass of wine). Expect starters such as masala calamari, and mains like beef sirloin with pressed potatoes or Mozambican prawns. Finish off with a classic crème brûlée or a duo of sorbets. This special is available Monday to Thursday.

HQ (Buitengracht Street)
Be a part of Love Thursdays at HQ, when tapas are at half price. Guests can also enjoy bottomless bubbly by Pierre Jourdan from 6pm to 8pm at only R100 per person. Also go for Date Night on Tuesdays, when you can get your steak with fries, a salad and a glass of Wolftrap Red (R280 for two).

Kyoto Garden Sushi (Tamboerskloof)
Enjoy three courses and a glass of wine for R220 at Kyoto Garden Sushi every week night this winter. Menu items include tuna tartare, vegetable tempura, duck ramen noodles, line fish with special rice, and black-sesame ice cream. The special is valid Monday to Friday until 31 August.

La Belle
 (Camps Bay)
Brighten up your winter day with a two-course menu for R190 or three-course menu for R230 until 31 August. Choose from dishes like Cape Malay mussels, roast-potato soup, salmon Wellington and roast chicken. Finish off your feast with sticky banana-bread pudding, a chocolate tart, or a pear-and-chocolate crumble.

La Boheme and La Bruxia (Sea Point)
Tuck into the two-course menu for R170 or the three-course menu for R200. This special is valid throughout winter.

La Colombe (Constantia)
Try their four-course winter lunch special for R395. This special is valid until 8 June for lunch only.

La Mouette (Sea Point)
Take advantage of the popular six-course Early Autumn Tasting Menu for R445 per person or the three-course Autumn menu for R375. This special runs from Tuesday to Saturday for dinner and Sundays for lunch and dinner.

La Téte (City Bowl)
The menu of this farm-to-fork eatery will change every night in order to make use of what is seasonal and fresh. However, be prepared to choose between a two-course set menu (R220) or a three-course set menu (R260). Dishes could include octopus with cucumber and mint, crispy duck with watercress and radishes, and a chocolate pot.

Manna Epicure (Gardens)
Order a two-course dinner for R125 or three courses for R150 between 5pm to 7pm. This special is available all year round. Also get 50% off breakfast every morning between 8am and 9am.

Meloncino (V&A Waterfront)
Receive 50% off any pizza, pasta dish or cocktail. This special is available Thursday to Tuesday between 11am and 7pm and on Wednesdays between 11am and 11pm, from 1 June to 31 August.

Myoga at The Vineyard hotel (Newlands)
Order the four-course tapas menu for lunch (between 11.30am and 1.30pm) for R195 per person, or have a five-course dinner (between 6.30pm and 9pm) for R350 per person. These specials will run until 31 August and bookings are required.

Moyo (Blouberg)
Tuck into the winter set menu at R185 per person for two courses and R225 for three courses. This special is valid until the end of August and is available Monday to Sunday from 6pm.

Mondiall (V&A Waterfront)
Kick off the week with the Monday Madness special: Order any two starters, mains or desserts for the price of one. This special is available all day on Mondays. Or dress up and enjoy Ladies’ Nights every Thursday, when ladies will receive 50% off their main course and 50% off all cocktails. Also sit down for the Business Lunch special, when you can bring a business card to the table and enjoy a choice of either a 33% discount for four people or fewer, or a 44% discount on tables of four or more (this special excludes drinks).

Ocean Blue (Camps Bay)
Feast on combos like prawns and calamari strips, fish of the day and prawns, or fish of the day and calamari strips – all for R145 each. Or go for a seafood platter for R220. Other winter specials include a lobster-and-prawns platter for R229, sirloin, and oysters at R12 each.

Open Door (Constantia)
Enjoy the three-course winter menu for R295 per person. The special menu is served Tuesday to Friday for both lunch and dinner. If you book a table for four guests or more, you’ll also receive a complimentary bottle of Constantia Uitsig Natura Vista to enjoy with your meal. The special is valid until 30 September.

Paranga (Camps Bay)
Warm up to a two-course set menu at R250 per person, or get three courses for R300. Highlights include spicy chicken livers, grilled line fish, oxtail and panna cotta. This special is available for both lunch and dinner until August 2017. Booking is essential.

Pepenero (Mouille Point)
Warm up to two courses for R180 or three courses for R220. Alternatively, try the sirloin tagliata (R120),  spaghetti alle vongole (R95) or the prawns in olive oil, garlic, chilli, parsley, lemon and potato chips (R160). You could also choose between the seafood platter (R155), the two-course set menu at R180 per person, or the three-course set menu at R220.

Pigalle (Green Point)
Enjoy a winter seafood platter for two for R590. This special includes two Natal lobsters, prawns, line fish, calamari and mussels. Also on offer is the two-course menu for R260 or the three-course menu for R290. These specials are available on Mondays and Tuesdays for dinner only, and Tuesday to Friday for lunch only. The specials are valid until 31 July.

The Pot Luck Club (Woodstock)
From 30 May, foodies can enjoy The Lucky Lunch at The Pot Luck Club. The special is priced at R250 per person and runs from Monday to Friday during lunchtime only. Dishes that will feature include crispy calamari, beef tataki, pork belly with XO and steamed bun, chick pea fries, fish taco, and doenjang-jigae soup.

Rick’s Café Americain (Gardens)
Stop by at Rick’s for happy hour every day between 3pm and 7pm. This special includes discounts on beers on tap, cocktails and cocktail jars. There are also weekday lunch specials available for R69. The dishes change weekly but you can expect anything from pasta to pan-fried Moroccan calamari strips. This special runs from 12 noon to 3pm daily. They also cater for the banting believers.

The Shortmarket Club (City Bowl)
Indulge in a three-course prix fixe menu from Monday to Saturday during winter. This specials costs R280 without wine and R360 per person with a carafe of wine. The wines that will feature during this special will include carafes by the Swartland’s exciting young winemakers. First up, it’s Jasper Wickens, assistant winemaker at AA Badenhorst Family Wines with his own brand, Swerwer Wines. This special will run until 30 September 2017.

Sotano by Caveau (Mouille Point)
Order two lamb burgers for the price of one (R90) from 5pm on Wednesdays.

Spiro’s (Hout Bay)
Tuck into the burger-and-beer special at the end of the week. Order a beef or chicken burger and chips with a 340ml Urban Brewing Co. Judas Peak Blonde Ale for R89 every Friday between 5pm and 7pm only.  This special is available for sit-down purposes only and no discount vouchers will be accepted.

The Square at The Vineyard Hotel (Newlands)
Enjoy a two-course menu for R250 per person or a three-course menu for R285 per person. The special is available for dinner only and the menu changes every three days. This offer runs from Monday to Sunday and is served for dinner from 6pm to 10pm. Booking is essential.

Tobago’s Restaurant, Bar and Terrace (Granger Bay)
Tuck into the curry lunch special at Tobago’s this winter. At only R145 per person, guests can choose from curry options such as butter chicken, lamb rogan josh or vegetable curry. Each dish is served with a side of rice, poppadoms, naan bread and sambals. This special is available from Monday to Saturday and runs from May until 30 September 2017. Also on offer this winter is the two-course menu at R235 per person or the three-course menu at R295 per person, for dinner from Monday to Friday from 6pm, from 8 May 2017 until 29 September 2017. Chef Norman will be introducing Saturday Supper Club at Tobago’s during winter at R345 per person. The menu includes a three-course menu with wine and occurs on the last Saturday of every month from 27 May 2017. Bookings are essential

Wang Thai (Milnerton)
Order any curry from the menu and you will receive complimentary steamed rice and a glass of wine from the Durbanville Hills range. This special runs from from 1 June until 30 September. Half price sushi is available from Monday to Friday between 12 noon and 6pm.

Winelands

96 Winery Road (Stellenbosch)
Guests celebrating their birthdays in May can take advantage of the May Baby Promo and receive their main course free of charge when ordering a starter or dessert with it. Be sure to take along your ID.

Bosman’s at the Grand Roche Hotel (Paarl)
This winter, take advantage of the winter accomodation package at the Grande Roche Hotel. At R1175 per person sharing, guests can enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, receive a 375ml bottle of wine with freshly baked treats in their room, enjoy a three-course dinner at Bosman’s, breakfast, MCC and oysters.

Benguela on Main (Somerset West)
Book a spot at Benguela on Main and tuck into the chef’s tasting menu at R725 per person (R1055 with wine). À la carte menu starters include risotto of potato, pan-seared scallop, pressed chicken and a variety of other options. Starters range between R85 to R120, mains from R175 to R225, and desserts from R90 to R110. Also part of the winter offering is Christmas in July, which includes a five-course menu at R600 per person. This offer is available between 6.30pm to 9pm on 22 July 2017.

Clos Malverne (Stellenbosch)
At just R149 per person, you can tuck into a sirloin steak with crispy fries, onion rings, a Madagascan green pepper sauce and a glass of Clos Malverne Devonet. This special is available for lunch only from Tuesday to Saturday. Bookings are essential.

Cosecha (Franchhoek/Paarl)
Get two tacos and a glass of wine, soft drink or coffee included with your meal for R60. (Add a third taco for R20 extra). This special runs from Monday to Friday. Other weekday specials include marinated grilled chicken with frijoles negros and avo salsa with a free glass of wine, soft drink or coffee included with the meal for R94.

Dornier Bodega Restaurant (Stellenbosch)
Warm up with the two-course menu at Bodega at R225 per person or opt for three courses at R295 per person. Highlights of steamed mussels with garlic-and-thyme infused cream sauce, braised lamb shoulder, beef rib-eye steak, and vanilla cheese cake with smoked orange marmalade can be expected.

Equus Dine at Cavalli (Somerset West)
Enjoy the Everyday Gourmet Experience at Cavalli by receiving 15% off the three-course menu and 20% off all wines and cocktails. This offer is available from Wednesday to Friday for lunch and dinner. Booking are essential.

Henri’s Restaurant and Pub (Somersert West)
Try the two-course menu for R220 per person or opt for the three-course menu for R250, which comes with a bottle of Lourensford River Garden wine.

Taste Bistro (Somerset West)
Warm up at Taste Bistro this winter with lunch options of soup and a toastie pairing for just R75 or the beer-battered fish and chips for R85. A winter set menu will be available for dinner as well as the à la carte menu. The two-course menu costs R195 per person and the three-course option is available at R235 per person. Both offers include a free 500ml carafe of wine.

Terroir (Stellenbosch)
Indulge in a taste of the full à la carte menu at Terroir this winter. From May to September guests have a choice of two dishes – either a starter and main or main and dessert – with a glass of Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection wine for R295 per person. The four-course tasting menu is on offer as well at R395 per person (R495 with wine pairing). The special is available for lunch and dinner

Twaalf (Stellenbosch)
Choose from the menu of daily specials at Twaalf. Receive a free rusk when you order a coffee or cappuccino on Mondays. On Tuesdays there is a two-for-one braaibroodjie special, Wednesdays is the All day Happy Hour, on Thursdays guests can enjoy a choice of beef or chicken burger with a bottle of beer for only R80, on Fridays there is no corkage fee, and on Saturdays guests can get two bottles of beer when ordering a platter.

Garden Route

Benguela Brasserie and Restaurant (Sedgefield)
Warm up with curry Thursdays at this Garden Route spot. Get a steaming plate of curry for R150 or a trio of curries for R175 per person. This offer is valid from May to end-September 2017.

Treat the family to a continental buffet (including one item off the à la carte menu) for Sunday brunch for R180 per person. This special is available every Sunday from 11am to 2.30pm until October. Guests also have the option to enjoy the breakfast special (a toasted wrap with scrambled egg, bacon, mushrooms, tomato and créme fraiche with cucumber-and-chilli salsa, including a cappuccino) for R75 per person. This special is available until September. Other everyday specials include the curry special (chef’s curry of the day with dessert) for R155 per person for lunch and dinner until the end of August. High Tea is also on offer and includes a selection of sandwiches and sweet treats, filter coffee or tea for R135 per person. A notice of 24 hours is required and booking is essential. The chef’s selection of tapas platters to share costs R120 for two.
