We ate there today, and were thoroughly disappointed by the food, which is very very average, and in some cases really bad. The public holiday menu is a set menu, which implies food prepared in batches in advance. The chicken liver starter was cold, and overcooked to the point of being tasteless and textureless. This approach continued into the main – sole – that was equally overcooked, and essentially a flavorless mash, once made of fish. The other main – lamb shank – was drenched in a sugary sauce that failed to disguise the boiled meat experience. Genuinely terrible. Dessert confirms the trend: creme brulee with a sugary surface that managed to be both tacky and impossible to chew, and a cheesecake that betrays long standing in the kitchen, exposed to the numerous flies. The entire meal just reeked of stuff prepared in batches with little or no care to the preparation or to the storage. Careless and unpleasant, and I’ll be warning people not to bother. Top it all off with a wine, excellent in itself, that is priced at a 42% margin over the retail price, let alone the wholesale, and you have a restaurant experience that you’ll wish you avoided.
