Owners description

Situated on the Holden Manz estate, this new Franschhoek restaurant relies very much on the farms veggie patch, herb garden and fruit orchards for its produce. The menu changes every other day and may include starters such as Caprese salad or grilled squid, and classic, hearty mains like steak with fries and green salad, or line fish with baby tomatoes and asparagus. Desserts are a must, so save space for sweets like white chocolate mousse or lemon tart.

  • Great service, excellet food, warm and friendly atmosphere. My wife and I had an amazing dinner here on Saturday night. Everything we ordered was excellent and the attention to detail on every dish was incredible. Our starters took a little bit long to arrive (we didn't even notice) and the management insisted that we not be charged for them, and they were delicious! An absolute gem of a restaurant and great value for money too. We will definitely be back!

  • We drove to Franschoek from Stellenbosch. My google maps application deceived me and soon we were heading up the pass towards Villiersdorp. My common sense or rather her's brought me back down to earth in the right direction. Unfortunately by the time we made it to Utopia, the kitchen was closed for lunch. However, we received the warmest welcome. We enjoyed a glass of wine and an exceptional cheese plate with fresh bread and homemade chutney. Someone once told me that you can tell a good restaurant by the cheese they serve. So I decided to come back for dinner. I booked for dinner without leaving a number and arrived about 15 minutes late. Surprisingly, we were the only two guests and still they kept the restaurant open and seated us in front of a cosy fire. Bjorn was there to great us and stayed until we left. The wild mushroom risotto was spectacular- loved the way the mushrooms dominated the dish - packed full of strong earthly flavours. The lamb chops were incredible and so was every other element on the plate. Same goes for the steak and chips. And the chocolate pot was delicious. Best whiskey dom pedro I've had. Definitely an experience that keeps you awake at night. Apart from a small spelling error on the menu, everything was perfecto. Numero uno.
