Owners description

Rated one of the leading restaurants in the Franschhoek Valley, already considered one of South Africa’s culinary hot spots, our Franschhoek Kitchen reflects an ethos based on contemporary south african cuisine. Our hearts are always drawn to the simplicity and pureness of the ingredients we use. This honest approach sees our guests enjoying authentic homemade dishes inspired by the country we live in and the farm we call ‘home’. Seasonality heavily influences our cuisine in the same way it influences the vineyards, ourselves and everything else on the estate, which is emphasized even more by the fact that much of our fruit and vegetables are home-grown with the utmost care on the Holden Manz Wine Estate, arriving on your plate fresh, healthy and filled with the vibrance of the Franschhoek Valley. Enjoy our range of award winning Holden Manz wines paired or on their own as you soak up the atmosphere of the breathtaking surrounds.

  • I recently had lunch at the Holden Manz Estate restaurant, the Franschhoek Kitchen and it was absolutely out of this world! The executive chef, a culinary genius (!), came to introduce himself and what a lovely talented young man. The food & wine were both of superior quality and together they form a symphony of flavour! We sat next to the crackling fire on an exceptionally cold winters day with a gorgeous view of the snow capped mountains and vineyards which surrounds the estate. I'll recommend this Franschhoek gem to anyone and I wil return for sure!

  • Great service, excellet food, warm and friendly atmosphere. My wife and I had an amazing dinner here on Saturday night. Everything we ordered was excellent and the attention to detail on every dish was incredible. Our starters took a little bit long to arrive (we didn't even notice) and the management insisted that we not be charged for them, and they were delicious! An absolute gem of a restaurant and great value for money too. We will definitely be back!

  • We drove to Franschoek from Stellenbosch. My google maps application deceived me and soon we were heading up the pass towards Villiersdorp. My common sense or rather her's brought me back down to earth in the right direction. Unfortunately by the time we made it to Utopia, the kitchen was closed for lunch. However, we received the warmest welcome. We enjoyed a glass of wine and an exceptional cheese plate with fresh bread and homemade chutney. Someone once told me that you can tell a good restaurant by the cheese they serve. So I decided to come back for dinner. I booked for dinner without leaving a number and arrived about 15 minutes late. Surprisingly, we were the only two guests and still they kept the restaurant open and seated us in front of a cosy fire. Bjorn was there to great us and stayed until we left. The wild mushroom risotto was spectacular- loved the way the mushrooms dominated the dish - packed full of strong earthly flavours. The lamb chops were incredible and so was every other element on the plate. Same goes for the steak and chips. And the chocolate pot was delicious. Best whiskey dom pedro I've had. Definitely an experience that keeps you awake at night. Apart from a small spelling error on the menu, everything was perfecto. Numero uno.

  • An amazing restaurant, the atmosphere is great, and the setting is very picturesque. The head chef Bjorn has got a lot of talent and this is reflected in the food! Definitely a meal or two not to be missed. I would also have to recommend the Litchi and squid starter; it is amazing. Had a great meal and would come again.

  • We had a lovely picnic here last week in the most beautiful setting! The picnic basket was packed beauifully with jars of yummy dips and preserves. From fresh ciabatta, cheeses, quality charcuterie cuts, tasty salads and the best donuts to end off!

  • We were driving through Franschhoek on Saturday, deciding where to eat. I saw a newly-opened gallery called Holdenmanz, just on Main Road. We had a walk around. The lady running the gallery suggested we should go to their wine estate, where they have a restaurant called The Franschhoek Kitchen. The most amazing view and the most amazing food! Their young head chef, Bjorn, came to our table in his white jacket. We ended up talking about food for close to an hour. I have never been as impressed with South African food as much as I was with this young chef. I will plan my next holiday just to come eat here again!

  • This place is beautiful! The food is incredible, I went there a while ago and had the duck and one of the best cocktails. I must say the chef has a lot of talent and is on his way to being the best! I must compliment him. This is my new favourite restaurant, I love it.

  • Beautiful setting. A worthwhile drive into the country. The food was good honest cooking at its best! The calamari starter is a must and I would also love it as a main dish. The fish was amazing and, to round it all off, I had the lemon tart. I believe that the Franschhoek Kitchen also has its own organic veggie garden, from which about 80% of its veggies are grown. My compliments to the Chef and his friendly staff!
