Bramon Wine Estate Tucked away in a mountainous area called The Crags just a short 20km East of Plettenberg Bay lies this hidden gem. Just off the old and beautifully tree lined N2 you pull directly into the Tasting Rooms of Bramon Wines. Small and boutique-esque you feel the excitement of a new adventure immediately. We are greeted by a very helpful man who informs us that this area is great for white wines and bubbly. Zipping through the whites I am waiting in anticipation for the Bubbly or Methode Cap Classique. The crisp, cold bubbles hit my lips and instantly I am in love with this place. We hop back into our car for a short drive into the vineyards to the restaurant. The restaurant is a chic black and white style house. Very comfortable with a lot of tables which I am sure are packed in the summer months. We are led through the open doors to the outside area where we were seated at a table directly in the vineyards. Yes, I said it, in the vineyards. We dined with the grapes. The menu is a tapas lover’s dream come true. Everything from fresh salads like Strawberry and Biltong to Bobotie Cigars. The array is enough to get my mouth watering. We settle on the small freshly baked bread (R30), Spinach and Feta Cigars (R40), Snoek Pate (R35), Springbok Carpaccio (R55), Sticky Chicken Wings (R35), Spanish Meatballs (R50), and the Camembert Fig & Nut (R65). I think at this point it is only fair to tell you that we were two people. And no, we didn’t over-do it at all (insert sarcasm here). The portions are huge for the prices. We had small tapas in mind, but when the staff rounded the corner we soon realised that maybe, just maybe we went a bit overboard. I still don’t regret our decision, however. The Carpaccio was so soft it basic melted in my mouth. The sticky chicken wings were covered in a sweet and tangy sauce that left me covered in it, but I didn’t mind. The Spinach and Feta Cigars were a bit dry so I could have done without these, but after all of the other goodies I felt some greens were necessary. And my absolute favourite, the thing I would drive 6 hours from Cape Town for again was the Camembert Fig & Nut. Heaven. Pure buttery, nutty, smooth, heaven. Words do not give this justice. You have to try it for yourself. And when you do…you are more than welcome to send me something for my recommendation. The Camembert Fig & Nut would be ideal. With all of this splendid food we also managed to fit in a bottle of their MCC Brut Sauvignon Blanc which, of course, helped wash it all down. Bramon Wine Estate has won my heart and my stomach. It was such a stunning experience to eat among the vineyards, but to also adore the food as well was such a treat. I will be back, Bramon. Six hours drive or not. I am coming!
