Nobu Cape Town unveils South African omakase menu

Diners in the Mother City have something new to savour as Nobu Cape Town introduces an omakase menu that aims to highlight the distinct flavours of South Africa.

The popular restaurant, which has sat nestled in the centre of the V&A Waterfront at the One&Only Cape Town since 2009, is a hot spot for locals and international guests looking for world-class food. This new menu promises a masterful exploration of local ingredients while retaining the distinctive Nobu style.

Curated by Nobu Head Chef Nicky King and her team, the multi-course menu begins with a smoked snoek pâté that’s delicately paired with a crispy rice cracker. A yuzu and rooibos-cured seabass follows with its citrusy zest offset by a delicate orange amazu. The Chalmar beef tataki salad is served next, layered with a grilled pear and honey ponzu that brings equal amounts of warmth and umami.

The food journey then turns to sushi: a curated selection of nigiri to provide a traditional touch of Japanese-Peruvian cuisine before returning to South African flavours once more. Guests can then enjoy local whitefish and mussels in a mango anticucho sauce before being served springbok loin with butter tosazu and confit figs. To finish off, a plum tart with sweet burnt buchu honey ice cream provides a sweet, botanical finish.

“[The team] came together from different backgrounds and cultures and we pooled our knowledge of our favourite South African flavours to make a menu as unique as the people of the country,” explains Nicky.

The omakase will be paired with fine South African wines and Japanese spirits and will offer an opportunity to celebrate a multi-cultural experience.

Bookings are now open for guests to indulge in this new menu. Nobu is open from Monday to Sunday, 6pm – 10pm, with family seating taking place before 8pm.
