Whether it’s for a weekday breakfast or a leisurely weekend eggs Benedict, breakfasts can make or break a day. With so many spots to choose from, we’ve narrowed it down to five spots around the country currently offering delicious breakfast specials.

Johannesburg

The Grove Green Café (Parkhurst) This new fitness food cafe offers low-carb, high-protein meals that fit in with an active lifestyle. Think healthy breakfasts and lunches, and decadent, guilt-free desserts. The health café is currently running a launch special, which means their entire breakfast menu offers launch prices. Some of the generious options include a bowl of rolled oats, banana and raisins with cinnamon and honey (R40); three-egg omelette with roasted veg, kale and truffle oil (R40) and three scrambled eggs with avo (R35).

Pretoria

Knead (Hazelwood) Part of the Knead chain, this Pretoria branch has become a popular haunt for foodies. From pizzas to sandwiches and, of course, tasty breakfasts, this bakery and café is a perfect mid-week meeting place. Their early-bird menu is a winner, with discounted breakfasts such as tempting brioche French toast and bircher muesli (both R20), scrambled eggs on toast with roast tomatoes (R25)and a bacon and egg roll with coffee (R35). For those seeking their morning buzz, coffee and tea items all go for R12. The early bird menu is available 7am to 8am, Monday to Friday.

Durban

New York Restaurant and Bar (Morningside) This laid-back but buzzing spot is great for weekend drinks, lazy lunches and a killer breakfast special. Diners can chill out on the sunlit deck and tuck into a R25-breakfast of two eggs, bacon, tomato, pork sausage, mushrooms and a slice of toast. The offer is available from 9am to 11:30am Tuesday to Saturday, and from 10am to 11:30am Sunday.

Cape Town

 

 

Clarke’s Bar and Dining (City Bowl)

Famous for their delicious burgers, mac ‘n cheese and cocktails, this hip spot is also a popular stop for delicious breakfasts. They run weekly specials with breakfast offerings including The Jackpot, comprising free-range hash eggs with coffee and orange juice (R75) or the Toast and Two special (R30), a slice of toast and two toppings of your choice, as well as coffee and orange juice.

Manna Epicure (Gardens)

This eatery, situated on buzzing Kloof Street, boasts a relaxed atmosphere and a seasonal menu. The chic restaurant is a hotspot for weekday and weekend breakfasts and brunches. For those who want to get an earlier start, an offering of 50% off breakfasts is available from 8am to 9am every day of the week. Diners can enjoy anything off the breakfast menu, from healthy muesli and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, to French-toast croisstants or eggs Benedict.
