ANTHM: A fusion of cocktails, culture, and music merge in Cape Town’s inner city

In the heart of Cape Town, ANTHM cocktail bar emerges as a new hotspot this summer, promising a celebration of flavours, music, and culture.

Inspired by its sister establishment, ROKC, in the vibrant streets of New York City, ANTHM is set to be a fresh and exciting haven for cocktail lovers.

“At ANTHM, we love music and a free mind,” shares Tetsuo Hasegawa, one of the visionaries behind the bar’s concept, who used to be involved in the renowned and intimate speakeasy-style bar, Angel’s Share in New York’s East Village. He says that the ambience at ANTHM will be meticulously curated to reflect the charm of an old Japanese house, adorned with carefully chosen antique furniture. The fusion of Japanese aesthetics with the vibrant energy of New York is poised to create a setting unlike any other. The venue will feature 40 seats on the ground floor and a live music lounge on the first floor, immersing guests in the soulful tunes of jazz, blues, and ’60s rock and roll.

ANTHM’s cocktail menu is not just a selection of beverages; it’s a homage to the music that defines the establishment. “We will name all our signature cocktails after the songs we play at ANTHM,” reveals Tetsuo. This approach promises to elevate the drinking experience, adding a dimension of multisensory delight where you not only savour the taste but also feel and hear the music that inspired each creation.

Even though drinks are the star of the show, guests can look forward to a menu of small plates utilising fresh ingredients. Think crudos, ceviches and an interesting array of pickles.

Operating on a walk-in basis, ANTHM will invite guests to revel in its offerings from 6pm to midnight, Tuesday to Saturday, creating an ideal place for spontaneous encounters or planned celebrations. The bar will mark its opening on 31 January.
