Cape Town’s first street-food festival to take place in July

Street Food Festival_mainCape Town’s first street-food festival will take place at Sidestreet Studios in Woodstock on Sunday 27 July from 9am to 3pm. Entrance to the market is free and everyone is welcome.

Some of Cape Town’s most well-known street food entrepreneurs will share their secrets to success in a series of talks at the event. Speakers include pop-up pioneer Yang Zhao, who recently opened her own restaurant, Beijing Opera; the Mucho Gusto team, which runs a Cape Town and Johannesburg based catering company; and Andy Fenner, who has built one of Cape Town’s most reputed and recognisable food brands with Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants. Topics will include: getting started; building your brand with naming, logos and packaging; marketing and social media; knowing when to say no; business planning; street vs retail; and advice from successful entrepreneurs. The day will end off with a special street-food dinner collaboration prepared by some of the speakers. Tickets to the dinner are limited and can be purchased via for R379.95.  The dinner creators include Ryan McDonagh of Lefty’s, Tebogo Maramza of catering company Kopanong Ke Moveine, Yang Zhao of Beijing Opera, Matthew Freemantle and Andrew Kai of Mucho Gusto, Heather Thompson of SOMA Confection as well as Vanessa Marx, chef at Dear Me and winner of Eat Out’s Rising Star Award in 2013. The meal includes five courses paired with wine. There will also be a cash bar available.
