Chef David Higgs to cycle 360km to raise funds for staff

To raise funds for his team at Marble and Saint restaurants, chef David Higgs will be taking on an incredible 360km ultra-endurance virtual cycle, starting at 3pm on Friday, 24 April. The cycle is in aid of raising awareness for his Staff Support Fund, for which the team has already raised an amazing R150 000 so far through the sale of his book, Mile 8. All proceeds go towards supporting the teams from his restaurants.

David will take on the virtual cycle with fellow Team Saint member Stuart Johnston. The duo hopes to sell one book per kilometre they ride: “We have such an incredible team at Marble and Saint – they bring the restaurants to life every day, and now it’s our turn to support them,” explains David. “Although initially, I wasn’t keen to take up Stuart’s invitation to ride the virtual event, I realised that it would be a great opportunity for me to raise funds for my staff – one kilometre, one book sold.”

David – who was due to cycle the now-cancelled 2020 Absa Cape Epic along with teammates from Team Saint – has remained fit during lockdown, using his stationary bike to ride daily. You may have even seen him in his cycling gear in his daily “#whatsinyourfridge” challenge and daily cooking demos.
