The chocolate cake jar contains moist chocolate cake topped with brownie bits, the store’s infamous pretzel bark and torched marshmallow fluff, all drizzled with salted caramel and chocolate ganache. The cakes are baked in the jar, and once cooled, all the other toppings are added.

So where did the idea come from?
“We had a helluva lot of people asking for cake,” explains owner Kaylah Greenberg. “We were reluctant to do a big cake as we are pushing the envelope at our store and thought a cup cake or slice of cake would be boring. Through a lot of experimentation and much trial and error, the cake jar was born.”

The jars, unsurprisingly, were instantly popular. “The response has been overwhelming; they have been an absolute hit. People are so excited to see something different done with something familiar.”

The couple has recently added an apple pecan flavour with a soft apple, pecan and cinnamon sponge base, topped with roasted apples, caramelised pecan nuts, a little salted caramel and cinnamon butter cream.

“We originally thought people would share them, but it turns out that people don’t like to share and they want their own. Since we launched the apple pecan jar, most customers have bought one of each and shared the two to get a taste of both.”

Kaylah promises there are plenty more flavours to come – and we hear there are also plans to launch an Aussie-style OTT milkshake this weekend.

OC, I just had to make it.
