Explore a culinary and artisanal wonderland in KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast with a variety of vibrant markets.

Ballito Farmers Market (KZN North Coast)
Launched in May this year, the Ballito Farmers Market at the lower Oaklands Farm venue in Umhlali offers an exciting way to spend the weekend. Featuring over 150 local traders selling fresh farm produce, multiple food stalls offering different cuisines prepared using locally sourced ingredients, fresh cut flowers, unique and local retail products, outdoor and casual fashion, craft goods, lifestyle products and art and sculptures, the market also includes a plant nursery and kids’ entertainment and activities at the Little People’s Paddock and Teens Coop. Additionally, the market offers live music by local artists and is a pet-friendly venue. The abundance of space also makes it a great choice for a picnic on the lawns. The market is held every Saturday, Sunday and on public holidays from 7am to 2pm.

Neighbourhood Food & Craft Market (Umhlanga)
In March this year, the Neighbourhood Food & Craft Market was launched at the Chris Saunders Park in Umhlanga. Held every Sunday from 8am to 2pm, the market offers a wide variety of artisanal food products to suit every palate, craft beer, a gin garden, bubble tea, mocktails and fresh juices, as well as unique handmade crafts and gift items including earrings, Boho garments, fashion accessories, bags, candles, leather shoes, beach chairs, caps, woven baskets and more.

The Saxony Westwood Night Market (Westwood Mall)
Held on the last Friday of every month on the rooftop of Westwood Mall from 5pm till 10:30pm, the recently launched Saxony Westwood Night Market promises an upmarket chic experience under the fairy lights, with a host of local vendors selling artisanal products ranging from crafts and clothing to jewellery and footwear, plus a host of food stalls serving up a range of freshly prepared, delicious grub and live entertainment to keep the vibey market buzzing.

I Heart Market (Durban North)
Durban’s popular I Heart Market was revamped earlier this year and the market has found a new home at the Northlands Primary School at 20 Gleneagles Drive. With a strong focus on supporting local artisans and boosting the local community, the market features tasty baked goodies and cured meats, a smorgasbord of delectable food from a diverse range of food trucks, as well as hand-crafted jewellery, accessories, natural skin care products, soya wax candles, kids’ toys, clothing, leather goods, shoes, ceramics, home décor, visual art and more. The next two markets will be held on December 2 and December 16 from 9am to 2pm and will also offer a broad range of fine festive fare from Christmas decorations to gift ideas and more.

Moonlight Market (Durban North)
Located at 21 Uitsig Road, Prospect Hall in Durban North, the Moonlight Market – a food and craft night market – is held on the first Friday of every month from 5pm to 9pm. Featuring a wide array of delicious food that can be enjoyed in the outdoor seating area under the stars, the market also has a vibey beer garden, wine and gin tasting, plus live music. Additionally, the market also hosts a number of local artisans selling handmade crafts, toys, clothing, sweets, plants, jewellery and more. And for weary shoppers, relaxing massage therapy is also on offer at the venue.
