The Eat Out Food School is cooking up a storm with Defy

New Media is excited to announce a new partnership with Defy Appliances (Pty) Ltd. Earlier this year, the Eat Out Food School opened its doors to 15 passionate youth, eager to kickstart their careers in the restaurant industry.

As part of the Food School’s Food & Beverage Services curriculum, Defy will now complement the programme by providing a fully-kitted training kitchen in the Media24 building, which will be made up of six mobile stations and a variety of small to large equipment for students to gain additional kitchen prep and cooking skills.

“We could not be more excited about this partnership and the support that Defy has shown towards our school and its students. 2021 has been a challenging year. In addition, the recent lockdown interrupted our students’ classes and their ability to work. This kitchen will not only provide the space for our students to acquire new skills and practice essential teamwork, but it also becomes an additional space for our classroom setup, which has been described as a haven and second home to most of our students,” says Tarryn Corlett, Head of the Eat Out Food School.

“With Defy having such a strong South African heritage since 1905, we feel that it is our responsibility as a company to show our pioneering spirit,” says Rajan Gungiah, Defy Regional Marketing Director. “We look forward to supporting the development of young aspirational chefs and wish to congratulate Tarryn Corlett and staff for their commitment to empowering our future generation. This partnership truly embodies our purpose of, “Pioneering Our Future Together”.
