Their cakes are perfect for all occasions and range from R500 to R1095, with an exceptional range of mouth-watering flavours to choose from such as carrot, red velvet, chocolate, and their famous rainbow cake. Tessa’s Bakery (Milnerton)

If you’ve never heard of Tessa’s Bakery, are you even from Cape Town? Chocolate caramel cake, red velvet cake, carrot cake, cheesecake, Peppermint Crisp tart – they have it all! Whether it’s a classic cake or a custom order, their cakes bring layers of joy, and there are vegan options, too. A classic cake costs between R390 and R850, while celebration cakes will set you back between R695 and R895. Send them a custom design and they’ll send you a quote. Be sure to pop by, they’re open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm, and Sundays from 8am to 2pm.

Classic Bakery (Crawford)

Classic Bakery has over 80 varieties of cakes and fillings to choose from, such as a sweet and creamy cheesecake, to a deliciously soft chocolate cake, with each slice baked to perfection and costing between R55 and R65. If you’re looking for something unique, send them a picture of your design and their skilled bakers will make it for you – whole cakes are made on request depending on your requirements and size  and cost between R220 and R650. They’re open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm; on Saturdays from 9am to 1:30pm, and on Sundays from 8am to 11am.

Chateau Gateaux ( Kenilworth)

Well-known for its exceptional handcrafted cakes and treats, Chateau Gateaux offers a variety of quality baked goods from daily delights to celebration creations. A slice will cost you R60, and a large cake between R450 and R650. They also offer a six-pack of various cakes for R219 so you can try a bit of everything. They’re open from 8am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, 8am and 4pm on Saturdays; and 8am to 2pm on Sundays.

Knus Karoo (Paarl)

Located in the heart of Paarl, Knus Karoo Kombuis serves delectable cakes and tarts that cost between R35 and R65 a slice. Every day brings a different selection of freshly baked goods, and they also offer custom-made cakes for special occasions and specific dietary requirements. They’re open from Monday to Friday, from 7:30am to 4pm, and on Saturdays from 8am to 3pm.

Smitten (Franschhoek)

This Franschhoek eatery, bakery and restaurant offers quality and value in a stylish package. Their cakes have a cult following among regulars, with the menu changing occasionally depending on demand and season. Each slice is priced according to flavour, carrot and chocolate will set you back R58 a slice, while gluten-free chocolate is R55. They also offer mini cheesecakes for R60 and lemon pound cake mini loaves for R55. You can also order whole specialty chocolate and carrot cakes for R620 and R600 respectively. They’re open from 8am to 5pm every day of the week except Tuesdays.

Soet Cakes

With their emporium based in Durbanville and branches stretching all the way to the Whale Coast, Soet Cakes has certainly become a neighbourhood favourite. Beautiful desserts and cakes are their specialty. Their specialty cakes range from anywhere between R490 to R580.
