And while we’re heading straight into the season of spring, we gift you with this comprehensive shortlist of where to find some authentic and delicious South African meals in Jozi.

KOBO (New Doornfontein)

Specialising in progressive African cuisine, the team at KOBO prepares and array of dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients. From Phutu Pap to Cape Malay pickled fish, an exciting modern twist is added to every dish at KOBO. They offer a tasting menu or you could opt for their a la carte option. The restaurant is open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 11pm.

Africa Cuisine and Restaurant (Braamfontein)

Nestled in the heart of Braamfontein, Africa Cuisine offers a variety of South African familiars, like boerewors hot off the braai, russian and chips combos and more. The restaurant is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 11.55pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 12noon to 11.55pm

Yeoville Dinner Club (Yeoville)

At Yeoville Dinner Club, it’s all about coming together and sharing in the ‘Pan Afrikan’ culinary experience and journey. Bookings are essential as seating for lunch and dinner are quite limited. Be sure to make a booking and experience a dining experience like no other.

Pata Pata (Maboneng)

Here you’ll find the perfect combination of live jazz entertainment and authentically South African food. Escape into a fresh and fragrant experience at Pata Pata. Tuck into dishes like venison stew, tripe and trotter, game skewer, boerewors and more. Pata Pata is open from 8am to 11pm on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday, from 9am to 11pm on Tuesdays, 9am to 5pm on Wednesdays, 9am to 12midnight on Saturdays.

Lokshini Kitchen and Braai Shack (Bellevue Estate)

Flame-grilled deliciousness is what you’ll find at Lokshini Kitchen and Braai Shack. You can enjoy dishes like goat stew, deboned cow head, beef trotters and more. Lokshini Kitchen is open Sunday to Thursday 11am to 8pm and from 11am to 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Vustar’s Kitchen (Ormonde View)

Offering a ‘true South African’ dining experience, Vustar’s is a spot to add to this list. Serving dishes like kotas, oxtail, tripe and trotters, ribs and chicken from the braai with sides like pap and chakalaka. Vustar’s is open on Monday from 12noon to 9pm, from 12noon to 8pm on Fridays and from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.

Ekhaya Pub and Grill (Yeoville)

Live entertainment, good food and community is what you’ll experience at Ekhaya Pub and Grill. Enjoy shisanyama, burgers, pizzas, cold drinks and soulful tunes played by local DJ’s on the decks. The restaurant is open from 9am to 9pm on Saturdays and Mondays, from 9am to 8pm from Tuesday to Friday and from 11.30am to 10.30pm on Sundays.
