Where to get delicious fish and ‘tjips’ in Cape Town

Cape Town is well-known for its breathtaking beauty, as well as for its produce and seas, but what would the city be like without its signature fish and chips? Check out these spots we’ve lined up for the best fish and chips with a special Cape Townian touch.

SeaBreeze Fish & Shell (Cape Town, CBD)

This restaurant, which is located right in the CBD, offers a modern twist on the classic seafood establishment. Their emphasis is on finding local, sustainable fish and presenting it tastefully and lightly to honor the Mother City’s rich seafood legacy.

For R60, you may get some delectable crispy tacos as an appetizer. For R220, you should try the Cape Malay fish curry with turmeric and herb rice, and fresh roti. Open 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

Blue Waters Seafood & Sushi Restaurant (Somerset West)

Open every Monday to Sunday from 11:30am to 10pm, The Blue Waters Seafood & Sushi Restaurant is based in Somerset West. Offering fresh top-quality seafood and sushi, with Hake and chips combo for R88 or opt for rice instead for the same price. They also offer a Junior’s menu for the kiddies, with Fish fingers and chips for R58. Be sure to go enjoy lunch with the whole family.

Kalkys (Kalk Bay)

At this renowned fish & chips haven, everything is seafood. Fish and chips from Kalkys are consistently perfectly battered and crispy. Try their family meal (R285), which includes one hake, one snoek, calamari, six rolls, two single chips, and one large drink, or their hake/snoek with chips (R90). (add R15 for grilled). Additionally, they sell sides such Greek salad for R60. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Sunday.

Ooskus Fisheries (Gordon’s Bay)

Ooskus Fisheries invites you to sample their delectable food and offers meals of exceptional quality and value. Their simple formula for success is to consistently serve delicious food of high quality. The restaurant takes pleasure in offering takeout prices on restaurant-caliber meals. eat delectable cuisine. Grab a beverage. But above all, unwind. The Ooskus special, which includes two large fried hake, chips, rice, and a full portion of calamari for R225, is also available. Super Fisheries (Athlone)

Super Fisheries, which is based in Athlone, is well recognized for its tasty fish and chips. owned by Rashaad Pandy, creator of The Gatsby. Open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 6 pm, Friday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm; 2 pm to 6:30 pm, and Saturday from 8:30 am to 3 pm, with Snoek/Hake and chips priced at R72 and Fish and Chips Roll priced at R44. Don’t forget to try out their Gatsby, which offers a wide range of options.

The Fish and Chips Eatery (Somerset West)

The Fish and Chips Eatery, which is situated in the charming Somerset West, offers top-notch seafood along with a selection of sides. offering freshly cooked medium and large hake and chips for R75 and R95, respectively. They serve savoury rice for R45 and fried russian for R30 as additional sides. They are open every day from 9 am to 6:30 pm on Monday through Thursday, 9am to 8pm on Friday, and 8am to 7pm on Saturday.

Fish on the Rocks (Hout Bay)

A firm favourite for years, Fish on the Rocks certainly has drawn the crowd with their exceptional fish and chips parcels. A hake and chips combo, or a snoek and chips combo is affordably priced at R90. Fish on the Rocks is open from 9am to 8.30pm from Monday to Sunday.

Snoekies (Big Bay, Belvedere Road, Hout Bay, Sea Point, Sea Point Pavillion, Tokai Junction)

Around since the 1950’s, Snoekies has been a household name for the longest time. They have a variety of fish and chips offerings available in family meal combos ranging from R160 to R450,  parcels ranging from R90 to R155, and combo from R125 to R165. Trueman’s Fish & Chips Take Aways (Kirstenhoff)

Whether you call ahead and place your order, or place it over the counter, your fish and chips parcel will be ready to collect and enjoy in no time. The fish is tender inside and crispy and golden on the outside served with hand cut ‘slap tjips’ served straight from the fryer and sprinkled with a generous amount of salt, before being coated with the perfect amount of vinegar. Trueman’s parcels range from R75 and the restaurant is open from 9am to 6.30pm from Monday to Thursday, 9am to 7.30pm on a Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.

Plumstead Fisheries (Plumstead)

Nothing says “fish and chips parcels” like this establishment who has been doing it really well over the years. Call ahead and place your order, or walk in and see if there’s anything extra on the menu you’d like to add to your meal. The restaurant is open from 8am to 8pm from Monday to Saturday.

Fish Hoek Fisheries (Fish Hoek)

At Fish Hoek Fisheries, your fish and chips parcel would be worth the wait. Always buzzing with customers, this is yet another neighbourhood gem that has stood the test of time. Parcels here starts at R73. The restaurant is open from 7am to 8pm from Monday to Saturday.
