Goodwill on a Plate

A glossy new cookbook has been launched in aid of StreetSmart South Africa, an NGO initiative under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu that strives to better the lives of street children. On a Plate features easy-to-prepare three-course menus by the whos who of SAs culinary industry, including chefs Luke Dale-Roberts (2009 Prudential Eat Out Restaurant of the Year) and Phillip Wagenführer (2009 Prudential Eat Out Top 10 Restaurant for Roots). Conceptualised and self-published by Jess Meredith-Watts, the production of the 4 000 copies of the cookbook has been generously sponsored by business partners and companies such as Maldon Salt. If all the copies are sold, On a Plate should raise close to R1 million for StreetSmart. “As a passionate restaurant patron whos been fortunate to have never gone hungry for a day in my life, the idea of children spending days on the street without a decent meal, is unthinkable, says Meredith-Watts.
