Heads up, Durbs: A secret gin bar has popped up in Durban North for a limited time only

The answer to Durban’s new gin craze has come in the form of a stylish gin bar pop-up. The Secret Gin Bar is the first iteration of the pop-up brand and has been set up inside Lupa Osteria in Durban North for the month of October.

In a space transformed into a gin garden by the creative teams at Trilogie and Spade Design Centre, The Secret Gin Bar boasts over 35 local and international gin spirits, as well as local tonics and gin cocktails.

The menu lets gin enthusiasts create their ideal drink with a range of different gins, mixers, garnishes and bitters to choose from. Choose your glass from balloon, highball or ‘on the rocks’ options before picking a gin. The wide selection includes Bulldog Gin, Malfy, Hope on Hopkins, Whitley Neill, Inverroche, Distillery 031, Hendrick’s, Musgrave Gin and Tanqueray. Garnishes are at the ready on the bar and include grapefruit, rosemary, cucumber, curry leaves, cinnamon quills and black pepper.

If DIY gin is too daunting a task, cocktails like ’Home’ – made with 031 Durban Gin, curry leaves and spiced bitters – or ‘The Cape Floral Kingdom’, with Inverocche, orange and a cinnamon quill, are on offer. The bar, forgoing the use of plastic straws, has opted for paper bamboo versions for cocktail sipping. Beer, wine and bubbles are also available.
