Exciting news has emerged about Cape Town’s favourite donkey, El Burro. The popular Mexican eatery has just announced that it will be opening up a branch in Dean Street, Newlands, at the end of this year. The new location will join the El Burro family, which already includes the flagship restaurant in Green Point; Cabrito, the tequila bar; El Burro Taqueria on Kloof Street, and the El Burro Mexican Food Truck.

The southern suburbs addition is set to open just in time for summer alongside dessert café The Creamery. The Mexican-inspired food and tequila menu will follow the same format and offering that Atlantic Seaboard locals have come to know and love, but with an added focus on lunch as well as a fun kiddies’ menu. After-work drinks will also be offered in a small bar area.

The new space will be inspired by the style and aesthetic as the original restaurant and Kloof Street Taqueria, but the team emphasises that this is not a franchise and that each store will still have its own unique feel.

There is no set date as yet for the opening of El Burro Newlands, but stay tuned to Eat Out for announcements.
